I'm sure you've all heard about this case by now, but in case you haven't:
This is Troy Davis's last chance.
Remember:
- 0 physical evidence
- 6 witnesses have recanted their testimonies
- 7 out of 9 witnesses say another committed the murder |
He has a link to the amnesty international page where they have a petition posted. The case is discussed here.

Looks like he was executed last night...
Wow, I can't believe this wasn't enough for him to get another appeal. I read the Antiterrorism and Effective Death Penalty Act from 1996 made it impossible for death row inmates to introduce evidence that could have been introduced at the previous trial (I guess this includes claims that the witnesses were coerced by police). Sounds like a terribly reactionary (OKC bombing) law. That really needs exceptions for evidence that technically could have been introduced, but would have caused retaliation toward witnesses (e.g. one of the witnesses said she was coerced by police because she was on parole for a previous crime). |
