Some American drug addiction statistics for you.

* 22 million Americans have a substance abuse or dependency problem * Only 2.5 million of them enter a hospital or clinic for treatment * Number one drug of abuse in the United States: Marijuana * Number two drug of abuse in the United States: prescription painkillers * The amount that the U.S. Federal Government will spend fighting drug abuse: $12 billion

And what does any of that have to do with your claim that your "position on every subject is bold, forward thinking and meets unsurpassed levels of critical thinking closely matching what is defined as a true skeptic. In fact I have exceed those expectations and should be considered a contributor and not an armchair critic."?
Let me clue you in, since (once again) you've completely missed the point. If you had one iota of intellect, you would have recognized that I was not making a comment on drug addiction, but on your significant self-delusion.
Nothing you posted is bold. Nothing you posted displays forward thinking. Nothing you posted even comes close to reaching any kind of level, much less "unsurpassed". You exceeded no expectations other than being a typical know-it-all idiot. Calling you an "idiot" is not an insult. It is merely a statement of fact.

When I see in the news the we are the 99% and the Occupy Wall Street crowds chanting away their frustration. I cannot but be a forward thinker. The same Americans who wanted to Democratize the world, who wanted free capitalism as a model for global trade. The American dominance in world affairs is now tethering on the edge of Anarchy. It was drugs, free pass to high school diplomas and a false sense of unsurpassed self importance that has reduced the population to a narcissist belief Americans actually earned a place in the new world order.

Interesting sidebar that. Is the insult a matter of the intent of the "speaker", or strictly generated by the sensitivity of the "listener" or must it be a combination of both? Somehow I suspect it is something akin to beauty. |

Well, you can unintentionally insult people, so it could be either or both. |

But can you ever insult someone who refuses to be insulted? |

I don't see how you can never be insulted. |

Take a person in a coma. I think if you dress and pose them in a way that invites ridicule, other people will think it's just as humiliating as if you'd done it to a conscious person. |

The person him/herself may not recognize an insult, but others might. |

Hmmm the third party view is interesting, and I think you are edging into the "unseen observer" idea. However not to digress too far, I have seen persons in similar situations (Like Terry Schaivo) who were posed in ways I thought were insulting, but where large portions of population thought were not. Same with many death rituals I have seen...I find many funeral rites to be degrading... It seems to me that those insults are grounded in personal culture and mind-set, but not intrinsically insulting. If I knew that the intent of the "insulter" was to insult the dead or disabled, I may have cause to object, or even feel insulted by the behavior myself, but I could not be insulted on behalf of the dead or disabled "Insultee."
I think yes you need to agree to participate for the insult to fruit. And I think the greater power does lie with the "insultee." It is one of the clearest and simplest examples of the idea that we can effect the world by how we choose to "see" the world. |
