Anyone heard of Rossi? He is going to "show" us the breakthrough of nuclear technology.

Not very.

Oh, sure. Someone finally solves the energy problem, and wouldn't you know it? The world's ending the very same day.

Really, it's another 'lead-into-gold' claim. There's been a lot of cold-fusion claims that fall flat from the get-go.

"We are all connected; to each other biologically, to the earth chemically, to the rest of the universe atomically."

"So you're made of detritus [from exploded stars]. Get over it. Or better yet, celebrate it. After all, what nobler thought can one cherish than that the universe lives within us all?"

So what are the problems with his design. If you look up on google you kind find these guy proclaiming cold fusion since January:

And when I was going to college in 198(mumble), there were scientists from Argonne National Labs that spoke on campus about their cold fusion experiment that they believed showed the concept in action.

It turned out they were wrong. They were scientists enough to admit it publically. They did explain how they were fooled by the reaction and byproducts but when they researched it further (prodded by peer review), they discovered their error.

It is likely that Mr. Rossi has stumbled upon the same issue and been fooled.

I remember when I was in school about how two Scientists in 1989 who made a huge media announcement about cold fusion. I guess this is not uncommon.

Scientists who go to the media before going through peer review play a very dangerous game. If they turn out to be wrong, there reputations are toast. And yes. It happens more often than it should.

It looks like E-Cat simply burns hydrogen. If that Athens 1MW installation is real, woe to them when they realize the cost of the fuel.

Well apparently it was a success... any red flags yet?

But this does not mean we can crack open the champagne and celebrate the end of fossil fuels quite yet. Skeptics have plenty of grounds to doubt whether the new test really takes us any further forwards.

For a start, the US customer remains anonymous. In other words, a group of unknown, unverifiable people carried out tests which cannot be checked.

Secondly, observers apart from the customer were only allowed to view the test for a few minutes at a time and during the entire test the E-Cat remained connected to a power supply by a cable. The external power was supposedly turned off; as a demonstration it would have been more impressive for the reactor in its shipping container to be visibly disconnected while operating.

The only test I'd accept is if I personally inspected the building containing the thing, and then plugged it into itself and it ran (with a load I specified) for a year straight.

I suspect that the E-Cat creators are doing a pseudo-scientific song and dance to milk investors before it's realized that E-Cat is not as advertised.

The University of Bologna needs Carl's Sagan's baloney detection kit. Interestingly enough cold fusion is even specifically mentioned at 3:08 minutes in. Add some bread to what has been presented for examination to date and we've got lunch.
