Last night's Daily Show had a hilarious bit highlighting the anti-science idiocy in politics and the media. Aasif Mandvi interviews Republican strategist Noelle Nikpour. The best part in my opinion is when Nikpour suggests science is some kind of conspiracy because scientific claims are only checked by other scientists. Mandvi says it's like only letting other surgeons give an opinion on whether a surgery is necessary or not, and Nikpour agreed, and went on to say how this is a problem! He really makes her look like an ass, which is good, because she is.

Funny and a bit scary at the same time. My guess is most Americans would side with most of what Nikpour was spewing out her mouth.

"We are all connected; to each other biologically, to the earth chemically, to the rest of the universe atomically."

"So you're made of detritus [from exploded stars]. Get over it. Or better yet, celebrate it. After all, what nobler thought can one cherish than that the universe lives within us all?"

Nikpour was interviewed for another Daily Show segment, this time by Samantha Bee as part of the "Obama's Socialist Christmas Ornament Program"

Incidentally, the students interviewed for that segment were smart and hilarious. This should be required Christmas viewing, along with Jon's infamous "War on Christmas" segment.

I guess Nikpour didn't take the words "Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me" to heart. Then again, she probably was going by W's "Fool me, you can't get fooled again".

Holy crap! So wait, is this Nikpour person for real?!? I mean, I don't know if she's playing along for a laugh, or if that is actually what she thinks. But if it's the latter, then we're fucked.

Nikpour and her ilk's definition of education is teaching their dogma. She gave the tiresome rhetoric about "letting the children decide"; well then, we need to force churches to teach children about atheism and about all other gods including Satan.

Individually we are all powerless with what we're up against but it doesn't have to be this way. This will never change until the people getting eaten alive join forces and fight back collectively. Here is a video that I see plays out what we're up against and what we can do about it. If only we could stand together on a national level. "We have got to get it together, now". SS

SS, good metaphor, but not exactly a plan of action.

As an off-topic aside regarding that video, as inspiring as it seems if we turn it into a political metaphor and don't take the metaphor too far, I gotta say, I sort of feel bad for the lions. They are carnivores after all, they gotta kill just to survive. And starving to death isn't much fun.

Nature is cruel.
