By the way this is the possibly the stupidest request I have ever read. Dictionaries explain proper use of words they do not enumerate every thing that can be that word. Don't believe me look up music, or fiction, or literature, or movie, and see that it does not enumerate genre, or even specific media. If I follow your twisted logic I must not assume a comic book is fiction literature unless a dictionary specifies a comic book under the definition of fiction and literature.

Aside from the glaring fact that the only consistent and legitimate "English word authority" is common use.

bngbuck, you are challenging the idea that meditation could accurately be described as "ritual" based on dictionary definitions? I'm having a hard time taking you seriously. Here's an authoritative dictionary definition of "ritual" from Encyclopedia's webstite:

Main Entry:1rit·u·al
Pronunciation:\#712;ri-ch#601;-w#601;l, -ch#601;l; #712;rich-w#601;lFunction:adjective
Etymology:Latin ritualis, from ritus rite
Date:1570
1: of or relating to rites or a ritual : CEREMONIAL <a #8764; dance>
2: according to religious law <#8764; purity>
3: done in accordance with social custom or normal protocol <#8764; handshakes> <#8764; background checks>
— rit·u·al·ly adverb

So handshakes and background checks are rituals according to a reputable dictionary. At this point excluding meditation truly seems absurd. Give it up.

I just did. I am reasonably happy with what I see. Can you say the same?
While you're not starting out calling people names, you're insulting enough to solicit them.
Well, that's a pleasant and courteous comment, Mikael, or is it merely your adopting Horace's complaint expressing your misanthropy?

Perhaps you would care to stand up tall enough to explain exactly how I have insulted you?
You seem so full of contemplation, that I would have thought you would figure it out. I was giving you advice. My misanthropy is in your eye beholding me.

I will pray for you.

Ta da. I'm done.
I'm certainly thankful for that today, chefmeister. Try not to burn the hamburgers!

Mabuse......

I will pray for you.
You know, you frequently sound as emotionally fragile as a closet fundamentalist, so I accept that as an honest expression of concern for my well-being. Thank you.

Marfknox.....

So handshakes and background checks are rituals according to a reputable dictionary
Of course they are. There is motion, action, movement involved. You believe that contemplation or meditation describe the same type of phenomena as handshakes? Your thinking is difficult to follow.

I'm having a hard time taking you seriously
Well, nothing worth achieving comes easily.

I am thankful that I was able to provide you with a reason to disparage!
Put-downs appear to be so important to you! Have a nice holiday, 'mam.

Pray tell what overt movement and "action" do you think is involved in background checks? Dancing? chanting? perhaps repetitive bowing?
