Charles Darwin had handwriting that was horrid, sloppy, unreadable.

Though better than what physicians use on prescriptions, Darwin's scrawl was a black mark upon British education. It has been the primary cause of most of the controversy that has plagued his theories ever since the voyage of HMS Beagle.

Now at last, using a Photoshop plug-in that enhances bad handwriting, I have been able to correct this fault in his the famous diagram from Darwin's "transmutational notebooks."

I hereby present to the world for the first time the real meaning of the notes on Darwin's sketch:

The ship-hands and captain are all cousins, could that be a coincidence? I think not! They must be related to the farmers that settled the hills in Alabama and the Appalachia.

You may be on to something there, Mab.

You know, this experience has led me to think. Since Darwin submitted the book that we think we know as "Origin of the Species" to his publisher in hand-written manuscript, the book could really be about nearly anything.

Perhaps Darwin actually founded modern sociology. Or wrote a manual on how to win in backgammon. Maybe it's a novel. We'll never know until his original manuscripts are run through Photoshop.

Indeed. And since Darwin seems to be not-so-distant relatives to American Hillbillies, the manuscript may even hold the recipe to lead-spiced moonshine.
