Long story, fortunately it can be summarized with a quick link.
He claims that I'm the one doing the misquoting? So be it. I told him: Email her and me with the claim and we'll let her settle this.

That guy's strategy is based upon his obvious knowledge that he cannot defend his position. When asked a question that he cannot honestly answer without giving away the game, he either lies outright, or sidesteps, meanwhile quickly attacking to distract the eye from the slick maneuver.

Thanks, Dave. And I commend OFfC not for his rather poor thinking and distorted reporting, but at least for allowing uncensored opposing comments. Unfortunately censorship and bullying control is the usual standard amongst theists.
And if you learn anything, OFfC, it should be that atheists are not subject to authority, probably less so than any group one could meet.
Your comments calling Dawkins "the atheists' god" as an example of atheists following their own brand of "religious" dogma were not only dead wrong, they were contradicted by your main theme of chortling over the over-hyped "schism" of the really minor (alleged, but very plausible) elevator incident, and the loud but ultimately insignificant kerfuffle of dueling overreactions afterward on both sides.
You know, it's called "projection" when someone accuses others of having his or her own personal failings. Thieves suspect thievery everywhere. Marital cheaters suspect their own spouses, racists accuse their targets of themselves being racists. The religious accuse the non-religious of being in a non-religion "religion," and theists accuse atheists of worshiping a god. It's all nonsense, of course, but it's a common nonsense, with the same psychological cause.
Some theists go so far as to say that all atheists are secretly theists. How'd you feel if atheists were eternally accusing you, because of your theism and religiosity of actually being an anti-religious atheist? Such non sequiturs would get tiring, no? But skeptical atheists don't do that to theists, because we know that atheism and theism are opposites, and that religion and irreligion are also opposites. One can't get any more wrong than saying that opposites are identical. |
