Dave. If you are just reporting on what other people are saying, than apply my answers to them. Sorry if I misunderstood.

Some of what I wrote was reporting on what others are saying. The rest was my own opinion and an overall conclusion: that the JREF is knowingly driving some supporters away.

Giving the JREF the benefit of a doubt means thinking that someone there has actually performed the estimates necessary to conclude that having Rebecca Watson, Amy Davis Roth and Ophelia Benson (for the most obvious examples) appear at TAM will result in less money being raised. That would mean that DJ Grothe's "missteps" last year were instead coldly calculated to ensure that those three (and more) would eventually refuse to show up by their own choice (so it wouldn't look like TAM was "banning" them), thus resulting in higher income for the foundation.

If not that, then the organization is making stupid mistakes regarding its fundraising efforts and not trying to fix them, in which case how can anyone know that the rest of its activities are handled more competently? How can we tell if the work the JREF does really makes a positive difference, and that the money it pulls in isn't mostly wasted?

Good question. I recommend everyone stop donating to the JREF immediately.

And speaking of TAM, I just received another forum grant. Of course, this places me in my usual yearly position. How am I going to afford the rest of it?

How much are we talking about Kil?

This year has been OK for me. The ex-es spousal support ended and I've been saving up for a down payment on a house.

It could be that my room will be covered by Zachary, my son. (And I'm looking for a roommate. I'm working on Boron10. I hope he can make it there!) That leaves plane fare and food. But this might not be the best thread to talk about this stuff.

And heaven knows. I still have a book for Mab that I bought for him at the last TAM. It has some nice autographs in it. I really do have to send it. I'm so bad.

Don't spoil the surprise any more than you already have...
And I think I'll be able to chip in a little this year too. Perhaps not as much as last year though.
