Correct! Congrats, Convinced! It is Robert Reuven Sokal (Hint #7, "Beaver returns look").

Robert Sokal, along with Peter H. A. Sneath, introduced statistical methods to biology and added the field of numerical taxonomy (Hint #6, "A Truly Mexican Moon") to biostatistics (Hint # 4, "I, Stoic, it stabs"). Sokal was also in the entomology field -- bugs, not word origins -- (Hint # 5, "Motley Goon").

May I ask, how did you arrive at the solution, Convinced? Sokal wasn't one of those well-known celebrity scientists. But he was well-respected by scientists since his work gave great new tools to other biologists.

I took your anagrams and put them back into the generator you used and got some clues that way because only a few made sense. Then I googled those words and 2012 deaths under images and found his face. This is the first time I have heard of him. This is why I like these puzzles, I have learned about alot of new people.

Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. So then do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. (Eph 5:15-17)

Wow, super, you really used your brains and available tools! That helps me know if the anagram approach is legitimate. Now I think so.
