Hint #1: Though he was born in the mid 1700's, I employed this person's actual daguerreotype portrait for the image above.

Horray! I got one.
It's the Homopathic Daddy himself, Samuel Hahnemann.

Founder of Homeopathy. Look at how well it worked out for him. He should have shot the photographer for taking that thing.

The clues are pretty useless for me overall. Especially the anagrams, even with online anagram help. That's why I get so few, 3 to date but the clues helped with 2 of them so far. I have no idea with the ham one and clue #3 was beyond me also.

Anagrams just generally annoy me, so since Mooner started doing anagram clues, I've ignored all the clues that look like they might be anagrams (since figuring out that a clue is an anagram is half the battle, anyway).

whatever the clue is, he could've found a less ugly toe. IMO that's unforgivable.

Ham + Toe + Hypo. Then solve that as an anagram: "Homeopathy".

You got it, congrats, sailingsoul!

Its's Samuel Hahnemann, the German physician who created Homeopathy. Homeopathy essentially treats illnesses with substances theoretically similar to what caused them ("the hair of the dog that bit you"), except in such tiny dilutions that often no drug is consumed at all. In fact, the more it's diluted, the more powerful the solution is in the minds of homeopaths.

There's not really many bad things I can say about the man, except that the world was unlucky he came up with this horrible idea, which is based upon ancient sympathetic magic principles, the "Laws" of Similarity and of Contagion. Hahnemann lived in a time when mainstream ("allopathic") medicine itself was mostly prescientific, and often did far more harm than good. But it turned out that allopathic medicine had a capability of becoming scientific, whereas the homeopathic kind had no such potential.

Hahnemann unintentionally created a monster when he invented homeopathy.
