That's sort of a partial answer, as Dave's is sort on an indirect answer, perhaps based upon your partial answer, but with the correct name included.
Sigh. Everyone's messing with me. Executive decision time: I'm calling moakley's answer correct on the basis of being the first, so long as he confirms (I'll trust his word) that Ed Brayton was who he was thinking of. And it's "Evil Big Thing" to honor Jessica Ahlquist being called an "evil little thing" by Rhode Island State Representative Peter G. Palumbo. Not "Big Evil Thing."
Yes, Ed Brayton is a former professional comic, turned "political atheist" (in PZ Myers' words), and runs not only his own blog, Dispatches from the Culture Wars, but also established Freethought Blogs (FtB). The Conservapedia entry for Brayton mostly dwells on him being corpulent. Brayton is kind of a cross between a liberal and a libertarian.
Players: Please be unambiguous!
Now, moakley, please confirm your answer was (or was not) meant to apply to Ed Brayton, so I can tote up the scores to the present time.
