in a 1-torus, not a 2-torus. For it to be a 2-torus, the top and bottom of
the strip would have to be connected as well. As it is, they're stuck
in the topological equivalent of a punctured disk.

| The top-bottom linkage was never tested, and so it cannot be determined if the strip is a 1- or 2-torus by simple examination. But we have no reason to doubt the character's assessment of their topology. |
