You don't normally associate fundamentalist Christianity and UFC fighters with the chance of hearing an intelligent statement, in fact you might think that the combination would be comedy gold. But here's what UFC fighter and avowed Christian Jon Jones had to say in the lead-up to the recent UFC 152: "“Well, I don’t believe that God gives me an advantage over my opponent at all. I think that God couldn’t care less about a UFC fight. What I do believe is that god helps me live a certain life and he helps me… you know, I am constantly seeking Christ and constantly seeking a stronger relationship with Christ. I believe that my relationship with Christ helps me live a better life than most 25-years-old would be living,” says Jones."
After all the hype we hear from some athletes about how their god helped them bang that homer, or score that touchdown, Mr. Jones' comments are certainly refreshing. If we can agree to disagree on the subject of deities, I'll buy him a beer any day.
