Last summer, I took my son to the 2012 USA Science and Engineering Festival. I wore one of my Skeptic Friends Network T-shirts, just in case it might spark a conversation, but we stumbled across the booth of the Society for Neuroscience in our meanderings around the exhibits.

Years ago, I'd learned that the SfN (note lowercase f) owned the sfn.org URL that would be so good for us here on SFN, and so when one of the people asked me what I was interested in at their booth, I snarkily replied with something about how I was still angry that they'd stolen our website's initials, and pointed to my shirt. This resulted in a puzzled look, followed by a good laugh.

I'm now glad that Dr. Dario Maestripieri wasn't manning the booth when I was there. Things might have gone from fake rivalry to downright ugly.

This SFN goes to 11! Way better than those lowercase 10ers.

"...things I have neither seen nor experienced nor heard tell of from anybody else; things, what is more, that do not in fact exist and could not ever exist at all. So my readers must not believe a word I say." -Lucian on his book True History

"...They accept such things on faith alone, without any evidence. So if a fraudulent and cunning person who knows how to take advantage of a situation comes among them, he can make himself rich in a short time." -Lucian critical of early Christians c.166 AD From his book, De Morte Peregrini

Wow. What an asshat!

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.
