...from the site:
Remove "In God We Trust" from the U.S. currency and remove "under God" from the Pledge of Allegiance. The United States added "In God We Trust" to our currency and added "under God" to the Pledge of Allegiance in the 1950s to show the world that we were not "godless communists". This was a blatant violation of the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to the United States Constitution, which clearly states, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof". This act blatantly respected the Christian establishment. Please help me in undoing this act of religious favoritism and "communist fear" by signing this petition.

That's only partially true. "In God We Trust" has been around since the Civil WarUS Department of the Treasury:
The motto IN GOD WE TRUST was placed on United States coins largely because of the increased religious sentiment existing during the Civil War | Not all coins and paper money had it, though.Since 1938, all United States coins bear the inscription. | andA law passed by the 84th Congress (P.L. 84-140) and approved by the President on July 30, 1956, the President approved a Joint Resolution of the 84th Congress, declaring IN GOD WE TRUST the national motto of the United States. IN GOD WE TRUST was first used on paper money in 1957, when it appeared on the one-dollar silver certificate. | The point remains, however, that our National Motto is a flagrant violation of the Establishment Clause.
I think it was Junior High School when it really registered to me that I was declaring this nation was "Under God" every morning at school. I do recall that once I realized that I have not said it again.
Really, it seems this petition is attempting to repeal that law passed in July 30, 1956. |

Signed.
Anyway, here is the White House's official response to a very similar petition posted about a year ago.. . . That's why President Obama supports the use of the words "under God' in our Pledge of Allegiance and "In God We Trust” on our currency and as our national motto. | In other words: Stop being so sensitive. I wonder how the President feels about the Confederate flag or the state mottos of Virginia and Alabama. These phrases represent the important role religion plays in American public life, while we continue to recognize and protect the rights of secular Americans. As the President said in his inaugural address, "We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus, and non-believers." We're proud of that heritage, and the strength it brings to our great country." | What would you call this? Equivocation? Prevarication? Neither seems to fit just right. |

Signed, though the petition could have been better worded. I prefer the framing of returning our motto back to being inclusive, otherwise we'll hear the wailing of "they're remoovin' Gawd!!!"
