And he covered good points doing so.
His full speech, worth a listening to. Farewell Mr. Ron I will miss your frankness, once your gone.

There are only two types of religious people, the deceivers and the deceived. SS

Can't wait to see what factcheck.org does with this. Even I can see some whoppers just in the first two pages (income taxes began in 1861, for example).

Does he ever get around to saying what "liberty" is, exactly, or does he leave it a vague ideal that we're all supposed to agree is good? I don't have time to keep reading right now.

This guy is a nut job, not realizing that income taxes are as low as they've been in many decades, and that the infringement on freedoms he hints at are entirely phantom. The couched nod to going back to the gold standard is crazy and should obviously never happen.

Actually, Obama has a really shitty record as far as the Bill of Rights goes, what with the continuation and expansion of Bush "anti-terror" policies that do more to strip regular citizens of Constitutional protections than they do to truly protect us from any terrorists.

But I suspect that what Ron Paul means by "freedoms" is nothing more than taking home more after-tax pay. Having a larger bank account in light of the other offenses of the Executive Branch may only mean being able to afford a better lawyer after the FBI reads every email you've sent or received in the last six months (legally, without a warrant).

If I were offered a choice between, say, eliminating indefinite detentions and paying higher taxes, taxes would win, no question.

Sure. I should have been more clear. "Freedom" is a dog whistle for certain people on the right to mean "lower taxes" and "less regulation on everything". Imposing environmental regulations is, to some, a limit on freedom, clean air be damned.
