Samuel Joseph Wurzelbacher just didn't fit, and few would know who that is. Yes, he doesn't have the legal credentials to act as a plumber in all of Ohio, but fiddling with pipes was his last (semi-)legitimate job, before he became a full-time (de-)motivational speaker on the GOP, wingnut, and teabagger rubber chicken lunch circuits. So "Plumber" isn't (or wasn't) too far off the mark in describing his occupation, even though that description has no legal standing in the State of Ohio. Also, "Joseph" is his middle name. So he can use a shortened form of that if he likes, I suppose.
As an historical parallel, King Harald I of Denmark is known to reputable historians as "Harald Bluetooth," even though there is no firm documentary evidence that he ever made a single short-distance digital radio connection to or from an iPod or other device in his entire life. (But I do concede that people didn't go around using his middle name unless that, too, was "Harald".) |

| Good for you Eriksson guys!
I'm still proud of my former employer, the old, pre-breakup AT&T, with their Western Electric company engineering, and their Bell Labs science. Those outfits invented or discovered just about everything but Bluetooth, including transistors, Unix, the cosmic background radiation, etc. Lots of Nobel laureates were Bell Labs or Western Electric scientists or engineers. |

Just like I refer to myself as a software developer when asked about my occupation, even though my official job title is "software engineer."Also, "Joseph" is his middle name. So he can use a shortened form of that if he likes, I suppose. | Is there any evidence that Wurzelbacher was going by "Joe" when McCain spoke about him as "Joe the Plumber?" Since McCain also refered to "Joe the CEO" and "Joe the Hedge Fund Manager," it appears that "Joe" meant "generic male label of a person whose name isn't important" and any resemblance to Wurzelbacher's actual middle name was merely coincidental. |

This might surprise you: AT&t is active in the Philippines. Their office is in Makati City, 28th Floor (Tower 2) of the Enterprise Center Building. I am not sure of what they do here in Philippines... |

| Welcome back!
Probably AT&T runs a calling center there, that would be my guess. |
