Hat Tip to Ed Brayton.
Moncton was tossed out of the climate talks in Doha:
The former deputy leader of Ukip, Lord Monckton, has been ejected from the Doha climate change talks and permanently banned after impersonating a delegate from Burma on the conference floor.
At one of the sessions, Monckton assumed the seat for Burma in place of the real delegate, and addressed the hall from his microphone. He spoke for nearly a minute, before being escorted out.
He was ejected from the conference centre, had his badge revoked, and is thought to have left the country. The UN later confirmed he had been permanently barred from future rounds of the talks. Monckton did not respond to requests for comment by the Guardian. |
So, how'd he get away with it? He was booed and heckled by other delegates. Although Monckton is not ethnically Burmese, many small developing countries have advisers from other countries, so his appearance in the hall dressed in a business suit would not have raised suspicions. |
It is not unusual for people to be ejected from UN climate change meetings – some activists were made to leave earlier at this COP – for being disruptive or pulling stunts. However, impersonating a delegate is far more serious. |
You can bet he'll play the victim card, which is probably what he wanted all along...
He shouldn't try though as other climate change skeptics like Nick Griffin were there and did not get tossed.

I only regret that Monckton wasn't thrown out of the Doha talks just for being that ass-hat Monckton. |

Nick Griffin, the BNP leader and MEP for the north west region is also at the conference. He said: "I am one of the few climate change sceptics, although I prefer realists. I'm here to keep an eye out to see if they have any crazy plans. Fortunately, their ambition is failing, so there are no crazy plans." |
I don't understand why the far right and climate change scepticism are so entwined. I get how conservatives see it as a kind of socialist theory and there may be a religious element. But UKIP and the BNP are essentially just national front organisations, their pet peeves are the EU and immigration. Strikes me as odd they would branch out into climate change denial. |

The second sentence may answer the first to an extent but yeah...I don't truly understand why they're so tight together myself. |

That's why the far right denies that climate change is even occurring, so that the necessary liberal policies would be unnecessary.
That, despite the fact that countries like China are buying new, "green" locomotives because in the long term, they are cheaper than the old, "dirty" locos. There are tons of businesses that will benefit from going "green," but it might take a long time to see those benefits. But, the far right isn't known for its far sight. |
