Hat tip to Zingularity.
And you thought the creationist AIG was bad? Holy shit.
It's not so much that AIG's mad the government bailed them out. (They wouldn't be around to be mad if it hadn't.) They just wish they'd done it a little bit differently. "The lawsuit does not argue that government help was not needed," The New York Times reports. "It contends that the onerous nature of the rescue -- the taking of what became a 92 percent stake in the company, the deal's high interest rates and the funneling of billions to the insurer's Wall Street clients -- deprived shareholders of tens of billions of dollars and violated the Fifth Amendment, which prohibits the taking of private property for 'public use, without just compensation.'" Does that kind of bad attitude count as "looking the gift horse in the mouth" or "biting the hand that feeds you?" Or both? |
So after getting bailed out, they want to get more money through a lawsuit that essentially whines about the terms of the bailout. Aren't those people part of the reason that this cock-up happened in the first place?
When a normal person fucks up and needs a bailout, we do not get to be able to dictate the terms. Why should they? Fuck, in real life, a normal person wouldn't even get a bailout in the first place.
At least one senator isn't too pleased.

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.
Another example of this guy's lunacy here. |

Actually, AIG may be obligated to join the lawsuit that's been in the works since 2011, or else wind up as a defendant along with the US Government. |

News says that AIG declined to join the lawsuit. Which means the board will probably be sued for failure to protect the stockholders. |

The board was obligated to "consider" joining the lawsuit, not sure it was ever something AIG intended to join.
Some investors I think are suing arguing that their stock was diluted with the supposed 92% stake the government gained, but it appears it would have been a difference between them owning 8% of what they had or, without the bailout, 0%. |
