Today (April 18th, 2013) is National Ask an Atheist Day...
...an opportunity for secular groups across the atheistcountry to work together to defeat stereotypes about atheism and encourage courteous dialogue between believers and nonbelievers alike. The event is intended to be an opportunity for the general public - particularly people of faith - to approach us and ask questions about secular life.
I am an atheist. Anyone got any questions?

What's the largest lake in the world?

Yeah. You know the answer, plus this is the internet. Dumb question.

Regardless the answer (I won't spoil it), I have no doubt that the water, plants and animals within the largest lake in the world are all entirely non-theistic.

Except for the unicorn, right?

I was completely unaware that unicorns are lake-dwellers. Is it only theistic unicorns that live in lakes, or is it the case that all unicorns are religious and some of them live in lakes? Do they have gills, use their horns as snorkels, or just paddle around like rainbow-farting ducks?

You didn't know about the freshwater unicorn?! For shame. They're more like rainbow-farting alligators, spearing unbelievers and fish alike.

I got a question for Atheists. I have asked several Theists in person and over the internet and not surprisingly I haven't got a single answer that makes any sense.

What evidence or reasoning do you (theist) have that makes sense to reject all other's Gods as not real and accept the one they believe in as real?

From the half baked answers I've got from Theists they don't have a clue, maybe a Atheist here can answer that. I could ask a theist here but that would still be a waste of time, based on other Theists track record elsewhere. Of course Atheists don't need to know the answer and you would think I could get an answer from a Theist but that hasn't ever happened. Seeing how this is "Ask A Atheist" thread, I thought I'd ask.

Well, for underwater unicorns...

What brought that on? this. Original posting here.

Another example of this guy's lunacy here.

I do have a question for atheists: how do you resist the urge to curbstomp (with reason) people who consistently and loudly decry things that harm absolutely no one, like gay marriage, because of religion?

What kind of answer are you looking for from an atheist? I'm non-discriminatory in my disbelief.

You loudly decry them as bigots and move on.

I don't know what the answer could be, so I posed the question. Theists that I've asked don't know or at least hasn't articulated any logical or reasonable answer. So I figured why not ask an Atheists.

Speculating why someone else believes in one over other Gods is a bit removed and speculation.

It's possibly a loaded question for Theists because they can't possibly give evidence or a reasoned answer, faith doesn't require it. In fact if their faiths were based on evidence or reason it would be faith.

Hey, SS, you might be interested in this.
Cool Dave, thanks for that, I'll give it a listen.

I'd love to, but they're basically everyone I deal with on a daily basis. And they won't take kindly on being decried.

(And yes, it was mostly a rhetorical question. Annoyed to no end.)
