Anyone seen this. It was in one of the Dutch papers this morning.

Seriously, how completely fucking bat-shane insane must you be to do this.

I say more power to them. All these tea partiers and religious nutjobs should put their money with their mouth is and follow suit.

I bet if they'd sold the boat, they could have just flown to Kiribati.

To me, that was one of the major ironies of the article. They complain about having to pay taxes for things they don't agree with. They end being flown to the US on US tax payer money.

Among other differences, she said they had a problem with being "forced to pay these taxes that pay for abortions we don't agree with."

They seemed to have strayed a wee bit to far south. GPS, these days, makes being lost at sea today virtually but not absolutely idiot proof. A fact these folks make evidently clear. Their preempted plans where no doubt a good turn of events for their intended destination. Kiribati, an island that is already disappearing under the rising ocean waters, affecting fresh water supplies.

God must figure Kiribati can deal with rising seas but not the uninterrupted arrival of the Gastonguays. That he could not allow. Chile obviously didn't want to keep them.

. As Christians, they don't believe in "abortion, homosexuality, in the state-controlled church,"
Which state-controlled church are they talking about, anyone have a clue?

Yep. I had this discussion with a god-botherer who stated that what these 3 adults had done was admirable. Since the Hyde admendment prevents fed dollars from paying for abortions (except for incest and rape) my opinion was that there was nothing admirable about the reasons given since they amounted to being uninformed, intolerant, and delusional. Additionally, considering that none of the adults had navigation skills so in my view they willfully endangered 2 small children. They were lucky.

These irresponsible numbnuts seem to think every time the sun came out after a storm at sea, it was a custom miracle produced by God just for them. If they want to praise God for the sunshine, they ought also curse him for the storm. Makes me wonder: How many other delusional fools (and their innocent children) have disappeared on the sea without trace or notice, not bothering to make preparations, but relying on their invisible sky man instead?

Just as Arc de Triomphe has a grave celebrating the Unknown Soldier, I propose there should be a monument for the Anonymous' Darwin Award. We may never know who he/she/they were, but we can cynically rest comfortable knowing they gave their lives to improve the human gene-pool.

The family is planning another attempt. A commenter points to the Wikipedia article on Kiribati, which notes:
In June 2008, Kiribati officials asked Australia and New Zealand to accept Kiribati citizens as permanent refugees. Kiribati is expected to be the first country to lose all its land territory to global climate change. ...[I]n April 2013, President Tong began urging citizens to evacuate the islands and migrate elsewhere.
It's also surprising that the Gastonguays want to move to a place that 55% Roman Catholic.

They should have their kids taken from the into protective custody before they get out of US territorial waters. So long as that's done, I will have no problem with whatever happens to them afterward. And no interest, other than in mocking this pair of idjits.
