His first mistake was to choose a known neocon for his vice president. Then he surrounded himself with others. I don't know if he actually believed his own bullshit when he was running, or he was lying. Either way, he wasn't that guy in the clips.

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

Why not question something for a change?

Another thought: American conservatives tend to either be nationalist isolationists (as they were before Pearl Harbor) or else sword-rattling militarists. Funny thing, though: When they don't have one of their own in the Oval Office, they are usually isolationists. When they do have one of their kind as President, they tend to transform into Rambo-like international adventurers. (Of course, they leave the physically risky part of being Rambo to the grunts.)
