I read about this on facebook, with the initial link to the online paper The Local (De).

Measles doubter must pay doctor €100000
Back in 2011, biologist and vaccination sceptic Stefan Lanka posted a notice on the internet saying that if anyone could send him scientific evidence proving the measles virus, he would pay them €100,000.

This is exactly what doctor David Bardens did, emailing the biologist a comprehensive study published in a renowned journal on the measles virus.

However Lanka then refused to pay the sum, which is why the matter ended up in court.

All over the article, the science denier Lanka is referred to as "sceptic".
This irked me, so I wrote an email to The Local:

Hello!

I'm writing regarding the article "Measles doubter must pay doctor €100,000"

(http-link removed because your spam-protection flagged your own site as virus!)

Several times in the article, you refer to Stefan Lanka as a "sceptic".
I'm calling Pox on the editor who let this blunder pass, may his testies
shrivel and fall off.

Stefan Lanka may be a scientific denialist, or a contrarian, but not a sceptic.

A sceptic is a person who questions new or conventional wisdom in order to
further advance scientific knowledge, but in doing so also accepts evidence
when presented to him.
By refusing to accept the evidence David Bardens sent him, Stefan Lanka has
proved himself anything but a sceptic.

Regards,
Mikael Lännqvist

I had several failed attempts to get the mail through because The Local's mail-server kept flagging my mails as virus-infected. Irony?

Anyway, yesterday a short respone came:
Dear Mikael,

thank you kindly for your concern for my testicles. Your objection to our use of the word "sceptic" in this sense is noted.

Tom

Good. Let's hope they put their new-found knowledge to use. As of this time, there are no changes in the article in The Local.

There has also been shorter articles about this in The Guardian (circulated on facebook), BBC, and Daily Mail.
