atheists always said for years that they didn't need some bearded man in the sky telling them to be good... and that if you need God to stop you doing bad things, you're a terrible person.... That was before they all turned out to be rapists. |

Yep, in the same way that all Christians are child molesters.

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

That was before they all turned out to be rapists. | While Thor's reply is awesome, I have some things to add.
First, the usual formulation is that anyone who requires God's threat of punishment to abstain from rape, murder or any number of other horrible acts is, yes, a terrible person who obviously can't see beyond themselves. As is anyone who refrains from raping people only because they're afraid of prison or execution. Being unable to perform the fairly simple moral calculus needed to conclude that rape and murder are "bad" in general aside from any potential negative consequences past pubescence is a symptom of a severely broken human being. Regardless their religious beliefs or lack thereof.
But that's actually irrelevant to what you said. What you said implies that some atheist, somewhere, has changed their position on your predicate after finding out that "all" atheists are rapists. It's okay, don't worry: I'll make it easy on you and simply challenge you to provide the name of a single atheist who has decided that being good really does require some sort of belief in some deity or other, as a direct result of learning that any other single atheist has raped someone.
Of course, you don't know the name of any such atheist, because you're just bullshitting and trolling. Again. Can we go ahead and ban this jerk now? If you think about it, he's has several dozen "strikes" already. He may prompt a great response like Thor's every once-in-a-while, but is our indulgence of him that much of a value-add? |

But if we ban him, who are we going to point-and-laugh at?

I don't recall seeing any good faith (so to speak) post from OFfC in a long time.

Check out a recent blogpost by Steven Novella: https://theness.com/neurologicablog/index.php/against-ideology/
Against Ideology
The skeptical movement has always struggled with some unavoidable ironies. We are like a group for people who don’t like to join groups. We actively tell our audience not to trust us (don’t trust any single source – verify with logic and evidence). Our belief is that you really should not have beliefs, only tentative conclusions. Essentially, our ideology is anti-ideology.
This is because scientific skepticism is not about any set of beliefs or conclusions. It is all about process, just like science itself – question, observe, analyze, repeat. |
Perhaps I am daft, but isn't humanism an ideology? Perhaps a broad one, but an ideology nonetheless, isn't it? |
