I guess it all started with a petition at Change.org:
Andrew Wakefield for the Nobel Peace Prize
The Legend of Dr Andrew Wakefield needs no explanation and people have their own opinions one way or another however some facts have rarely been given the prominence they deserve and this petition seeks to do so as contributory reasons to grant the wishes of the proposer.
Dr Wakefield was the lead author of the most cited most famous paper on Autism in history the 1998 study which sparked the global questioning of the safety of some vaccines for some children.
A terrible historical injustice was done to Dr Andrew Wakefield and he was a casualty of war. |

I thought this was knee-slappingly funny, and sad at the same time. Especially since the Nobel Committee has strict rules to follow which regulates which parties are allowed to make nominations. And private citizens, or the organization Change.org, are not included.
And... The peace-prize? Seriously? Physiology or Medicine was too good for Wakefield? 
Skeptic Friend Dude made a counter-petition, aimed at Change.org to implement a system to fact check petitions.

| While Change.org provides a valuable service to the world, I believe this service would be greatly improved by implementing a system to fact check petitions. There is currently a petition circulating to nominate a disgraced, disbarred, antivax "scientist" Andrew Wakefield for the Nobel Peace Prize. This petition ignores the fact that Dr Wakefield falsified data, and that his fakery is responsible for a large number of unvaccinated children dying from preventable diseases. While the Nobel Committee does not accept nominations from random people, it is still disgraceful to see Change.org allowing this sort of fact free petition to exist. |

Perhaps their logic is he was instrumental in preventing some future megalomanial mass murderer or dictator from seeing it's second birthday. Would that make make him eligible?
If biblical history is to be believed and now that we have the likes of trump and hillary running for president of the most powerful country on the planet God is due to implement ANOTHER a major reset... AGAIN! Why is God having the damnedest time implementing that plan of his we hear believers talking about all the time? That is of course if any of the contradicting dogma was believable. Don't stop the Carnival boys and girls it ain't over yet. |

Kil, which petition did you post on the SFN facebook page? The Wakefield petition has grown by several hundreds since this thread was ceated, while the petition seeking "Fact checking" has to date gathered only 6 signatures. Which I assume includes me, you, Dave and the originator. That accounts for four out of the six at this posting. What's up with that? How many people view SFN's facebook page? |
