May 17-20, the American Humanist Association will have its annual conference, giving some awards ( http://conference.americanhumanist.org/awardees2018/ ). One awardee is David Suzuki ( http://conference.americanhumanist.org/awardees2018/#suzuki ). And David Suzuki is a promoter of pseudoscientific opposition to GMOs ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Suzuki#Genetically_Modified_Food ).

Why does the American Humanist Association sees it fit to reward such a promoter of pseudoscience? I guess that it is not his pseudoscience promotion that he is awarded for, but still, don't they have standards?

I didn't know that Suzuki was an anti-GMO activist.

I wonder what his reasons are.

Ugh, that GMO's are currently safe is well established. What a schmuck.

David Suzuki: Canada’s ‘science guy’ turned eccentric anti-GMO, chemical scaremonger?
Suzuki’s idiosyncratic science beliefs have been criticized by several journalists and scientists. "The reality of David Suzuki now seems completely at odds with the perception of David Suzuki. On a number of issues, he is not informing Canadians, but misinforming them. Rather than scientists getting their messages out through David Suzuki, they’re having to undo the damage his words are causing,” wrote Rob Breckenridge in the National Post in 2014.

So yeah. Bummer. Reminds me of when Bill Maher won the Richard Dawkins award, ignoring his anti vax views.

It tarnishes the reputation of the orgs that give out these awards.

Sigh...

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

Why not question something for a change?
