| In other words, Flacus, no: the existence of spirits is not beyond the reach of science. Scientific analysis has very clearly demonstrated that spirits as you define them cannot exist, since it would necessarily imply a separate mind-body and mind-brain (also known as "dualism"). Afterlives are bunk. Every thing that makes you *you* (awareness/consciousness, emotion, feeling, behavior, etc.) is a process. When that process ends, you end. A candle flame doesn’t go anywhere after it burns out. It ends. We will simply end. |
