Hi jacq and welcome to SFN! Looking forward to your input...

Here in rural, southern US we are just as backward and I'll bet we have even more churchs striving to lower the public IQ. We also have Ken Ham. Ken Ham, has an amazing, animatronic monument to Myth & Deceptin. He came to us from Oz -- y'all want him back? Please....

Um, no.

But I do apologise!

Hi, I'm Torsten Pihl in real life and live in Corvallis, Oregon. I'm a defender of science and church-state separation. And I enjoy the furry fandom. Woof!

Corvallis is a lovely town though there is much woo here, so I get good verbal debate practice at the pubs countering paranormal/metaphysical unsubstantiated assertions over pints of ale. Whee!

Hello everyone! Former lurker(years and years, more than 7 I think...getting old.. ) and now bona fide member of this network. I love this place, it's been like an oasis in the desert for me and I mean it because here in Puerto Rico there is no such thing as a skeptic community. Lets see if I can actually contribute with something. See you later!

Welcome to SFN, TheMadDeviant! Nice of you to delurk. I hope you'll let your cloaking device cool off.

This next year, for economic reasons, I'm moving my retirement operation to the Philippines, a land even mores spirit-haunted than the USA. But even there, a skeptical community thrives. Have you searched hard to find skeptics among your compatriots in Puerto Rico? If there's truly no skeptic community there, have you considered starting one?

Thanks for the welcome, y'all, and hi TheMadDeviant.

Ruby is a Malamute mix. Mixed with what, I don't know. I don't know where she got those awesome big ears where the tips bounce when she walks.

Good bouncy-ear action in this short silent movie:

Hello Torsten! Welcome!

Your name suggests a Scandinavian connection. Both first name and sir name are fairly common in Sweden.

Edit: Torsten is a Viking name meaning "The stone of Thor" and Pihl (the 'h' is a silent marker that the 'i' is long) is the Swedish word for "Arrow".

Hey Mooner. Thanks for the welcome. Many years ago I tried to find a skeptical community here to no avail. But after reading your post I thought "why not" and found like two groups on the web, with less than 49 members but what the hell! LOL! Here in PR atheism is a very personal thing and a conversation killer so one tends to not bring that subject up. But I'll try to contact what little I can find, thanks fore the advice Mooner.

You are most welcome. Here, you might want to look at this Puerto Rican skeptics site in case you haven't already.

Hi, Dr. Mabuse! Yes, Torsten = Thor Stone (known to mean hammer). Rawr! I met another Torsten Pihl in Sweden, so my Facebook says "Torsten Pihl is friends with Torsten Pihl".

My heritage is from the Danish island of Lolland.

Hello! I've been a lurker on this forum for two months and finally decided to join. The intelligent discussions on this forum will usually brighten my dullest days. So thanks for that guys.

My educational background is in bioengineering (mostly instrumentation, less so genetics and computational modeling), and I currently work in quality control (for better or worse I'm with big pharma). My primary philosophical interests include moral skepticism and consciousness. I guess I also have a weakness for playing the devils advocate (its quite fun). Hopefully I can contribute something to the forum.
