bigpain is ignorant.

Surely the definition of an oxymoron.

Hey bigbrain, you still haven't answered my question. Let me refresh your memory:

I think my eyes have become somewhat inured to such things. After all, a while back I went hunted down and found a few of those "we'll teach you good Web design by using all the bad stuff." Those pages blink, man.

Oh, and here's some advice: whenever you run across pages like that plastics job, first click "select all" on the "edit" menu of your browser, and then start reading.

This thread has got me wondering about mental health in general and schizophrenia in particular.

Has there been any research done on people like BIGBRAIN, that have delusions of conspiracies? I am sure (well relatively sure) that he is a functional and productive member of society - yet he harbors a bizarre delusion that he will not let go of irregardless of any evidence to the contrary.

I believe that doctors can detect differences in brain scans between patients with schizophrenia and unaffected people. I am curious if a brain scan would show the same schizophrenic anomalies on a "conspiracy nut" - albeit to a lesser degree.

I am not jerking BIGBRAIN's chain, I really an curious.

OMG! We never went to America!

The ship that columbus sailed looked nothing like this one. I am told it was made of wood, but listen to this WOOD IS A HYDROCARBON. FRUIT IS COMPRISED OF HYDROCARBONS!!!!!

You cannot sail to America on fruit, the fruit goes bad after a few weeks and then Columbus IS ALL WET!

Today THEY claim to make boats out of metal BUT I HAVE ASCERTAINED THAT METAL DOES NOT FLOAT!

EVIDENCE: "Though it is true that metal does not float...

It's what's mixed in with plastics which can change the particular characteristics of the finished product.

Like cork, mixed with silicone, which makes a very efficient heat shield. You think, "isn't cork basically wood, and silicone basically a kind of rubber, and don't they burn?" But things are different at a hundred thousand meters altitude and upwards of twelve thousand meters per second. And many of the materials - including the "plastics" - are not your typical consumer products, neither in composition nor in the way they are prepared. So it's not the same as leaving your Tupperware on a gas stovetop. The chemistry and physical processes are just a leeeetle different :-)

Sure, there are fancy, ultralighthweight silica tiles like those used for the Shuttle and fancy, very heavy 3D graphite composites like those used for heat sources and ballistic missile noses. But designers have a wide range of synthetic and natural materials (silicone, silica, phenolic resins, Fiberglas, carbon fiber, and yes, cork) to choose from, depending on the application. For example, Huygens used a silica tile-type system; Galileo's probe used a carbon phenolic/nylon phenolic shield.

Humans have routinely trusted their lives to different types of resins in the heat shields used in all manned space capsules; not only Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo by the U.S., but also the Russian Soyuz and the Chinese Shenzhou. I've seen a wide variety of ignorant claims by HBs*, but very few of them involve decrying the heat shield technology because it is so routinely used by all spacefaring nations, including those which have been quite hostile to the U.S., especially during the Apollo program.

*Not all claims by HBs are ignorant. The HB debating bag-o'-tricks is also chock full of deliberate lies, distortions, irrelevant comparisons, outright fabrications, and flat denials of fact. And some HB claims are simply illucid, or happy conflations of mutually contradictory statements ("We never went to the Moon. And we covered up the presence of the UFOs we found there."

Now we're getting somewhere with this thread. Somehow I knew this transportation hoax had its roots long before space travel. Thanks for the enlightenment, Subjectmatter, and welcome to SFN!

SubjectMatter,

You have discovered that Columbus and all those other ITALIANS are BUFFOONS!!!!

p.s. To any Italians other than BirdBrain -- I am not serious.

"What the hell is an Aluminum Falcon?"

"Oh, I'm sorry. I thought my Dark Lord of the Sith could protect a small thermal exhaust port that's only 2-meters wide! That thing wasn't even fully paid off yet! You have any idea what this is going to do to my credit?!?!"

"What? Oh, oh, 'just rebuild it'? Oh, real [bleep]ing original. And who's gonna give me a loan, jackhole? You? You got an ATM on that torso LiteBrite?"

You are saying, as often, only a lot of craps.

Meteorites, made by rocks and metals, in their impact with atmosphere burn and instead your cork-capsule, your plastic-capsule are magic, they don't burn at 5000/10000 °F.

Only air pressure would brake into pieces your CORK

Plastic would melt like butter and your capsule would grow red-hot.

BIGBRAIN,

What you want to say is:

"That is a bunch of crap."
or
"What a load of crap."

Do not say, "That's a lot of craps."

Crap is a vulgar term for feces, and can be used as slang to denote a falsehood. Craps is a gambling game that utilizes 2 dice.

By the way you are full of crap.
