Hey, give a big tip-o-the-hat to our head dumbass President Bush for empowering the I.D. movement. This will end up in court....

Randy, I'm not sure if your title is a pun or a typo, but either way I think "bored of education" pretty much sums it up. Let Kansas try ignorance for awhile.

H., pun intended. Am sure the recently elected fundie BOE will, once again, be replaced at the next election. Deja vu? One way to get serious to combat this is for schools of higher learning announce that Kansas students are receiving sub-standard education and could be passed over for acceptance into their schools. |

Heh, indeed....
And then, there's the Boared of Education.
It all seems so simple to me. In school, you teach that which is known to be fact and theory, and, if you must have it, teach superstition religion in the churchs. All things in their own and proper place -- how is that so difficult to understand?
I agree that this parcel of fundie crackpots will be voted out and replaced by who-the-hell-knows, and there's the red-meat of the matter: the current idiots didn't elect themselves.
Apathy.....
I have little doubt that if a good percentage of eligable voters had turned out in the last election, none of this nonsense would have transpired.
It has been said that the electorate gets the leadership it deserves. Smart fellers, those folks who say things like that...

I, for one, am anxious to see how ID will be "taught" in schools. Besides a teacher saying again and again "this is too complex" I'm not sure what else the lesson plan will entail.
How do you test for complexity? What sorts of predictive experiments can we expect from the IDers?
And most importantly: what will people think when, in 15 years, there will be almost no biologists who can say that her or his formal education came from the state of Kansas? Oh well-- perhaps they can all get jobs at the Discovery Institute... |

FYI, in the US each school district(usually a town) and state are allowed to make their own standards. Yet another reason to pretend to be a Canadian. I wonder what would happen if the Flat-Earthers got a majority in a school district. |

Sounds like the good folks in Pennsylvania kick the BOE Republican I.D. butts out of office yesterday! Kansas will follow suit, yet again, during the next elections.

Do they still read Edith Hamilton's Greek Mythology book in high schools? (This shows how long its been since I was in high school.) Anyway - if ID is required, the English teacher can share lesson plans with the Science teacher, since there is nothing to preclude the Greek Gods and Goddesses getting in on the possible origins of humankind. |

Hot off the presses of Red State Rabble: quote: Thursday, November 10, 2005 Ignorance is Bliss Looking for coverage of the Dover school board election? Don't bother looking at the Discovery Institute's Evolution News and Views blog. As of this post, the fellows at intelligent design think tank on Puget Sound haven't been able to bring themselves to write anything...
You will find three post on the Kansas State School Board's vote -- which occurred the same day -- to "teach the controversy."
The Dover vote will, apparently, be treated like the overwhelming evidence for the fact of evolution. Ignore it, the reasoning seems to be, and maybe it doesn't exist.
# posted by Pat Hayes @ 7:13 AM Comment (0) | Trackback (0) Speechless The magnitude of the defeat for intelligent design proponents in the Dover election has apparently left them speechless. Reporters seeking comment from incumbent intelligent design supporters have all included this line in their reports:
The incumbents did not return phone calls seeking comment.
# posted by Pat Hayes @ 7:05 AM Comment (0) | Trackback (0) NYT Call Dover Election "Decisive" "In the end, voters here said they were tired of being portrayed as a northern version of Dayton, Tenn., a Bible Belt hamlet where 80 years ago a biology teacher named John Scopes was tried for illegally teaching evolution," writes Laurie Goodstein in this morning's New York Times.
"I think the people of Dover are tired of the attention over such a minuscule thing and they want a change," said Lonny Langione, who had served on the board in years past and supported the challengers. "A lot of the people I talked to were upset because the school board came to using taxpayer money to advance their own agenda."

I do hope the Kansas Klowns are paying attention. It would be a pity if their students were unable to compete for entry into Harvard. On the other hand, that would leave a bit of room for others, and give the economy a few more forklift operators....
