Watchdog: Neo-Nazi sympathizers slip into U.S. military
Friday, July 7, 2006; Posted: 7:44 p.m. EDT (23:44 GMT) WASHINGTON
(Reuters) -- Neo-Nazis and other white supremacists have increasingly been able to infiltrate the U.S. military due to recruitment pressures created by the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, a watchdog group said Friday.
Orwellingly Yurz sez:
What can we expect these days what with a legal immigrant from Austria (whose father was a Nazi) running for a second term to be the governor of a very large western state in the U-S? In fact, who now has a slight lead over the his opponent after a dismal showing in the first term, and is attempting to distance himself more from the president of the U-S because both are of the same party.
If he ever learned how, Timothy would be smiling now.

As a California resident, I can honestly state that I am no fan of Arnold Schwarzenegger. Never the less, I find the above post offensive. |

What does this have to do with anything? Last I checked, people aren't usually considered responsible for the character of their parents.
Or do you just have some problem with immigrants holding office?

Children are usually affected by values held by their parents would be the point on Der Groepenfuhrer.
So long as an immigrant has integrity and is qualified, I have no problem with their holding office, but I think the constitution has something to say about the office of the president. And Herr Schwarzenegger has shown he is not beyond fantasizing about the abolition of that constitutuional impediment, much like Mr. Reagan had ideas about doing an FDR for a third term; which, in turn, would've required an alteration in that precious document that Mr. Bush considers but "a goddamned piece of paper."
In case my "humor" is too cynical and, maybe, too subtle: Timothy McVeigh deserved what he got, and I'm against capital punishment! I would've preferred he spend his life in solitary, and maybe, just maybe, he might've grown, and actually become sorry for the atrocity he committed in a city where I once lived and worked.

I fail to see the connection between neo-nazis in the military and Arnold being gov.
Do I find neo-nazis in the US military troubling? Yes.
But it has nothing to do with the gov. of CA.
And so what if his father was a nazi? Alot of people were, many of them still alive today. Most of them were not party to the atrocities now associated with that word.
And Arnold was certainly never a nazi.
It is beyond ridiculous to blame neo-nazis in the military on Arnold being gov.

Can you point to any policies he's made which are Nazi-like? Or are you just smearing the guy?quote: So long as an immigrant has integrity and is qualified, I have no problem with their holding office, but I think the constitution has something to say about the office of the president. Has Arnold - or did Reagan - ever fantasize about getting their wishes through means other than Constitutional amendments? If so, then you'll have a valid comparison to the current Bush administration. Otherwise, all that can be said is that people in this country have an absolute right to speak about changes they believe would benefit the nation, whether they're right or wrong.
Overall, it seems to me that you're trying way too hard to justify comment(s) or jokes (I can't tell) which really can't be justified, and so you're just digging yourself a deeper hole. |

You know what is interesting. Arnold is basically a social liberal. Sure he caved on some issues for the party, but all in all he doesn't, for example, care who sleeps with whom and has said so on many occasions. Social conservatives, it seems to me, are much more in line with the spirit of fascism. And it is they who control the republican agenda on domestic issues. And they were born here…
Next generation Germans and Austrians generally abhor their countries Nazi past.
Arnold continues to distance himself from Bush. And he has done so since he first ran when Bush's numbers were much better then they are now. Most recently he refused a Bush order to place more of the California National Guard along the border.
I didn't vote for Arnold and I probably never will. But to even attempt to paint him as something other than the libertarian republican that he is, is ridiculous…

However, what you fail to recognize here is that many germans got quite a shock about what their nation had done after the war. The actions of the nazi party were in many cases abhorred by those supporting it previously, after reality came shining through nazi propaganda. The generation of germans and austrians that came after them, is on the whole one of the most tolerant and anti-nazi generations in the world. At least, that's my experience from the people I've met from different nations in the world, and those have been quite a few.
Before singling out a single issue and making a judgement on that, it would suit you to research the complete picture.

Like? From what I get here in the news in the Netherlands, Schwarzenegger is much more tolerant than many of his fellow republican party members, both in congress and outside it. It's hard to live in Europe for a long time and not get a healthy dose of socialism (and depending on the country) tolerance rubbed into you.

There was no humor. All I could see in your initial post was the exact thing you criticize in it, immigrant hatred due to stereotyping of a culture and circumstances that you know far too little about to form any kind of sound opinion on it. |
