Over at the Panda's Thumb they are reviewing Jonathan Wells' The Politically Incorrect Guide to Darwinism and Intelligent Design. There is so much wrong in the book they had to farm out the reviews chapter by chapter. As of this time, about a third of the chapters have reviews posted. From what I've read, this book should just be titled "The Completley Incorrect Guide to Darwinism and Intelligent Design".

A sample of the review of the Introduction:

quote:
Now, an interesting thing about The Politically Incorrect Guide to Darwinism and Intelligent Design is that it is fat with specious criticisms of modern biology but nearly emaciated when it comes to “intelligent design”. Nowhere can one find any information on when a designing agent might have designed or how a designing agent manufactured its designs in matter and energy. In fact there is not a single, clear statement of what was and wasn't designed. So while the title is modest in some respects, it's also incorrect in one more: there's no guide to “intelligent design” in The Politically Incorrect Guide to Darwinism and Intelligent Design. Ah, well. Maybe next year. Or the year after that. Or the year after … pigs fly.

The foundation of morality is to . . . give up pretending to believe that for which there is no evidence, and repeating unintelligible propositions about things beyond the possibliities of knowledge.
T. H. Huxley

I'll suggest a new name for this vile Moonie's book. How about, "Evolution by a Complete Idiot"? I suppose the private slogan of Discovery Institute is: "When you can't and won't do science, do propaganda."

Isn't it interesting how other fundy Christian creationists are now allying themselves with followers of Sun Myung Moon and his utterly facist Unification Church, led by a guy who wears a fucking crown, and claims to be the new Messiah?

Jonathan Wells should be soundly ashamed of himself, not just for this piece-of-crap propagada book, but for (with "Father" Moon's financing) having taken up a seat in the biology doctorate program at Berkeley. His seat would have been better filled by someone possessing a real interest in science and critical thinking, not by some jerk-off who was getting a degree so he could "know the enemy," the better to attack science.

And they lie about evolution in order to save morality!

Fr. Griggs rests in his Socratic ignorance and humble naturalism. Logic is the bane of theists.Religion is mythinformation. Reason saves, not a dead Galilean fanatic.

Just the idea that Ann Coulter's endorsement is on the cover of this book is embarassing enough: "Annoy a godless liberal: buy this book!"
