You do remember that skeptic griggsy is an avowed schizophrenic, don't you? I couldn't tell you whether her visits here were on medication or off, but I'm not sure that makes a real difference.
Actually it's Schizotypal Personality Disorder. Not Schizophrenia. And it is probable that he could and should write in paragraphs. Nevertheless, Bill, that was a tad harsh, don't you think?

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

bng, just remember that you defended retard jerome here on SFN.

Griggsy, while incoherent(mostly) and often unintelligible, doesn't demonstrate willful ignorance, deliberate deception, or intentional provocation.

From what little I can decipher he/she/it seems to be trying to engage in some conversation about the nature of reality.

Ignorance is preferable to error; and he is less remote from the truth who believes nothing, than he who believes what is wrong.

Nope. Wasn't present, no memory of anything. Don't doubt a word of what you're saying, tho'!

Well, bngbuck, what Kil said is right there in the post you replied to:
Your happy depressive schizotypal.

Dave.....

Kil's girlfriend would be far better qualified than I to comment, as I have never formally practiced the discipline in which I hold a doctorate, but back in antedeluvian times, schizophrenia in all of it's manifold manifestations, seldom produced incomprehensible speech or writing.

He, she, it must be certifiable for an asylum.

The guy/girl is a nutcase, that's for sure!

Well, doctor Buck, I am admittedly completely unqualified to argue that a schizophrenic would act in any particular manner at all. However, skeptic griggsy's statements (at the end of the post you replied to) that she is schizotypal and depressed seem clearly comprehensible (I stand corrected by Kil that schizotypal and schizophrenic are not synonyms). It is, in my utterly amateur opinion, not just "a tad harsh" but actually cruel to tell someone with an organic brain disorder (or two) to "get your fucking brains in order!!"

Sort of like a gym coach telling a kid with a broken leg to walk it off.

Perhaps the fact that you did not formally practice the discipline in which you hold a doctorate is a very, very good thing for the certifiable nutcases who were thus not your patients.

Hi all.
Schizophrenia can manifest with "incomprehensible speech or writing." Schizophrenia is widely considered a physiological condition that is brought out by a life stressor. Schizotypal Personality is not considered an organic condition in the same way that schizophrenia is. It is considered a personality disorder, as far as I have experienced. It has little to do with disorderly brains. It does not necessarily manifest with "incomprehensivle speech or writing."

Since there seems to be a lot of confusion and since Griggsy is not shy about mentioning his(look at his posts on Skeptic Society. There is a lovely picture) schizotypal existence, I would suggest instead of making suppositions, googling schizotypal personality disorder, or whatever, we just ask Griggsy.

Griggsy, how does schizotypal manifest in your life? Is it similar to schizophrenia?
Griggsy, how come you write big, long posts that seem very interesting, but are hard to read because of the lack of paragraphs? Is that just your writing style? Or does it have to do with the schizotypal thing?

Just put this here because I thought it was cool and I wanted a picture. Doesn't mean anything. I'm the one with the fish. Kil is the other one.

The clues I got from long-ago emails said "woman." Go figure.

As for the rest, I'm not at all confused. I may have been wrong about which disorder griggsy's got, and I may have been wrong about it being organic, but my point has been about nothing more than bngbuck being a heartless jerk, for which all the other stuff is irrelevant, including griggsy's writing style.

The only thing that is relevant is that griggsy said, plainly, that he's got mental troubles, but bngbuck flew off the handle at what amounts to little more than poor textual narrative skills, and told the guy to repair himself or else go masturbate instead of wasting bngbuck's precious time.

The fact that bngbuck just paraded around his doctorate in a relevant field and has been unapologetic just makes his massive insensitivity all the more appalling.

froydnshp, I blame some of my writing on my defective cortex. I now make paragraphs. Unlike other schizotypals, I abjure both the supernatural and the paranormal and such idiocy as alien abductions that they so embrace.

Existence may or may not be a very approachable subject, but I don't think it can be considered philosophically unimportant. It certainly merits discussion by skeptics.

I appreciate your willingness to discuss your mental condition, Griggsy. That takes some cajones. Most of us, even here, would rather skip past such self-exposition.

I'm a near-total ignoramus on mental disorders, even my own stroke-induced problems with concentration and the various neuroses I have that apparently try to compensate for that.

So I will approach this only from a writing viewpoint. When writing posts here, I often write huge paragraphs of baffledeegook. I then preview them an notice how nasty they look. I go through the big paragraphs and look for logical breaks, adding two line feeds wherever I find them. If there are no such logical breaks, I break up the mess into smaller paragraphs anyway.

Huge blocks of text are very, very difficult to read. They make me angry. Thank you for adopting paragraphs, Griggsy.

Gottried Wilhelm Leibniz's big blunder is his question why is there something rather than nothing? For there to be nothing, then God would be rquired.

Pardon the brief OT, but... Because I was contemplating delivering a real zinger here the other day in one of these fora, I was looking up the term, "passive-aggressive" in Wikipedia. But it turned out that the term didn't properly describe what I was looking for. Worse yet (ack!) it did describe my own coping mechanisms to a tee. Self-knowledge can be a brutally pitiless thing.
