Yup, Mars, the Roman god from which comes the English March. I would suppose the Swedes have kept the original? What's the month's name in Portuguese?

Temporary lapse...

March, in English. "Mars" in Swedish. Yes, the third month of the calendar is named after the planet, and the Norse God of War.
This was typically the month when the ice on the lakes thawed, and the violent Vikings put their longships to sea for another pillage-and-plunder raid on their less fortunate neighbours.
This intimate connection between the new season for warfare and the name of the Viking God of war made the name obvious.

(or not. Join the chat to discuss this...)
