I got a 75. But I was raised Catholic so I knew all those sacraments and had to memorize the 10 commandments in 4th grade.

Y'know, looking at it from an unbeliever's point of view, the argument might be made that the lower your score, the better you've done and happier you should be.

From an atheists viewpoint, is it not a good sign that their test scores are so poor? Wouldn't that just be a manifestation of increased secularism in our High Schools?

Ignorance is almost always a bad thing, and possessing more knowledge is almost always a good thing. Especially when we consider that religious ignorance doesn't make anyone less religiously fanatic.

From the article:
quote:
Goff cites a widely circulated claim on the Internet that the Quran foretold American intervention in the Middle East, based on a supposed passage "that simply isn't there. It's an entire argument for war based on religious ignorance."

Also, a secular education doesn't exclude learning about religions. I had a world religions class in 11th grade that simply gave us an introduction of the basic tenets and histories of Judaism, Christianity, Buddhism, Hinduism, and Islam. Although that particular class took place in a private Catholic school, the class itself was totally secular and could have been taught in a public school without violating the separation of church and state.

I agree fully with the people written about in the article who are trying to push for more religious education in public schools and colleges. The world is becoming more and more connected, and considering how important religion is not only to some living individuals, but to a general understanding of history and cultures, educated people should know the basics (including both the lightest and darkest sides) of all the major world religions.

The multiply-by-two step should have ensured that your score is an even number, marf.
