There are a great deal of websites which celebrate April Fools' Day. If you know of any, post them here.

TheFaceBook, a website similar to Myspace but geared more towards college students, has a "News Feed" which reports recent actions taken by users. Today, a line from Oregon Trail, "Two of your oxen drowned when you tried to ford the river. 4:30am" appeared on everyones feed.

Googe, for those who are unaware, released Gmail on April 1st, and everyone thought that their 1GB of email was a joke. Turns out it wasn't. This year, they released Gmail Paper. This one certainly sounds like a joke, though I'm not entirely sure it is...

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

Definitely a joke:
Gmail Paper is made out of 96% post-consumer organic soybean sputum...
A neat trick.

Ah, missed that. And on a closer look, one of the beta testimonials is from "Bill K., Armchair Futurist".

There's this Wiki article on George Washington, the inventor of instant coffee. But I finally figured out that it's not a joke. (Maybe I would have understood this sooner if I'd had my first cuppa George.)

But the one on Richard de Southchurch, who, according to Wiki's from page, "... planned to attack London with burning cocks"? Coffee's still kicking in, so I'm not sure.

Of course, there's an entire mini-encyclopedia that consists of nothing but April Fools hoaxes mocking the American Right. This one I'm sure of, and I'm now wide-awake.

Google has even posted GMail Paper as a "new feature" of GMail on the GMail log-in page, but the promised button, "Paper Archive" does not appear after one logs in.

Urban Dead, a game played by some members a while back, had the message:

# An airstrike
demolished the building around you, killing 7 survivors and showering you with wreckage for 27 damage. (6 hours and 38 minutes ago)
The link should work for everyone.

PZ Myers and The Panda's Thumb both have stories today revealing that the DI's latest star, creationist neurosurgeon Dr. Michael Egnor, has been in fact hoaxing the evolution community this entire time. According to a Discovery Institute press release, Egnor's ignorant views were an invented fiction:
quote:
Over the past month I have engaged in what my friend Bill Dembski ludicly refers to as "street theatre". My posts here have been an outlandish parody of the bona fide Intelligent Design position, liberally injected with many of the more simplistic errors of the Young Earth Creationists. My purpose was to see how far we could go before the gullible Darwinists realized they were being taken for a ride. The Discovery Institute has graciously aided (and abetted!) by allowing me a voice on this weblog and by giving me valuable feedback on my comedic output. Together, we have succeeded in duping the Darwinists (like the foul-mouthed duncecaps at the Panda's Thumb and Scienceblogs).

However, that hoax seems to be the real hoax. The DI press release, posted at the Panda's Thumb by an annonymous "guest contributer," is actually a link to a fake web page merely designed to look like the DI's site. A skim of the DI's actual website, Evolution News and Views, reveals that no such admission by Egnor exists. A few snoopers have found the fake web page to be registered to Wesley R. Elsberry, a biologist and frequent contributer to the Thumb.

So the real April Fool's Day prank is that Egnor is in fact 100% legitimate. Yes, folks, he really is that stupid. And just to cement his reputation as an ignorant blowhard, Egnor offers the following stupidity in an article posted today:
quote:
Materialism is nonsense, because if matter and energy are all that exist, then truth doesn't exist (it's neither matter nor energy). If truth doesn't exist, then materialism can't be true.

Well... You can't argue with that because arguments would be pretty useless against such a dumb statement!

They have the following Mark Twain quote on the front page.
quote:
It could probably be shown by facts and figures that there is no distinctly native American criminal class except Congress." Samuel Langhorne Clemens (Mark Twain), Following the Equator, ch. 8 (1897)

I guess they never read "Letters from the Earth" or any of his other work pointing out the hypocrisy and contradictions of the Bible.

That was a nicely executed hoax, done on the only day of the year when even the most skeptical of debunkers are permitted to lie their asses off for the sake of humor and illustration of absurdity.

My salute. Well done!
