seems untrue to me, that he could know exactly where she was but never see her, and he had contact with her family but never got a message to her.

I'm with Vegeta on this one. It seems more than a little odd that this person could be in contact with the parents and other family members, who were happy to provide general details, but not provide (or even forward) an email address or something equally useful.

He's pretty dedicated, but doesn't seem to be trying real hard, hell, if he's prepared to move countries, blowing a few bucks on a PI or two really should have got it sorted long ago.

John's just this guy, you know.
