More unsettling crime news from the Half Moon Bay Review's "Police Blotter." This is a cruel town.
Disturbance

7:35 p.m., Aug. 30, Myrtle Street

A disturbance between neighbors escalated when one party shouted profanities on the sidewalk in front of the houses. Police documented the incident and told both sides how to file restraining orders.

11:38 p.m., Aug. 31, Casa del Mar

Police separated a pair of roommates who were arguing about bills. The altercation never came to blows.

Driving without a license

8:03 a.m., Aug. 28, Highway 1

Poilce performed a traffic stop after a 34-year-old Half Moon Bay woman allegedly ran a red light and found her to be unlicensed. She was ticketed and released.

12:13 p.m., Aug. 31, Lewis Foster Drive

Police stopped a juvenile for a traffic infraction and found he had no license. He was cited and released.

1:50 p.m., Aug. 31, Main Street

Police stopped a 25-year-old San Jose man for an inoperable brake light and found he had no license to drive. He was cited and released.

6:47 p.m., Sept. 1, Main Street

Police stopped a 26-year-old Hayward man for running a stop sign and found he was without a driver's license. He was cited and released.

Domestic dispute

9:30 p.m., Aug. 27, Washington Boulevard

Police responded after an incomplete 911 call and found a couple arguing. The altercation was completely verbal and one party agreed to leave for the night.

1 a.m., Sept. 2, Kehoe Avenue

A woman told police that her husband grabbed her arms during an argument after she began hitting and scratching him. The case will be forwarded to the district attorney for review.

Police work is a thankless job. If it weren't for the corruption opportunities, who would bother besides those who crave power over others?

Strange post in contemplation of your 2nd amendment posts.

What a man believes upon grossly insufficient evidence is an index into his desires -- desires of which he himself is often unconscious. If a man is offered a fact which goes against his instincts, he will scrutinize it closely, and unless the evidence is overwhelming, he will refuse to believe it. If, on the other hand, he is offered something which affords a reason for acting in accordance to his instincts, he will accept it even on the slightest evidence. The origin of myths is explained in this way. - Bertrand Russell

Cool Mab!!! Wish I could have been there.

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

Why not question something for a change?

So neat, Mab! Glad you could come from such a distance. (Your account left me curious as to your military service and weapons training. Are the DHS people the only ones who get to know?)

Wish I could have been there! Thanks for representing skeptics at Dragon*Con 2007!

I did 11 months of service in the Air Force as an electronics repairman and non-commissioned officer as a team leader with a rank of "furir" (Swedish rank above corporal and below sergeant).

My wepons training consists of handling and maintaing the Carl Gustav M/45B, for personal protection. My position was primarily technical support. From Wikipedia I read that it was used in the US, perhaps you and Filthy recognise it?

Thanks for that interesting background, Mab, thanks. The DHS folks must have satisfied with your normal military service, though. I never saw your M/45B. In fact, I've never handled a machine gun, large or small -- except for a .45 ACP "Grease Gun" that a kid brought to my high school one day, and it was so deeply bolt-immobile rusted that it hardly raised an eyebrow. (He brought it as a kind of "show and tell," something that would be impossible these days.)

Is that your Model M/45C cane, leaning against the table? I have one just like it. Mine uses 9mm ammunition.

It's very robust and reliable. Almost stonage technology but... it never fails. Well, almost never. During my entire time in service, it happened only once in my plutoon, and that was a "cartrige" blowback. But nothing serious happened.

Nah, I have a high-velocity sniper single shot.

Nah, but I fired this Carl Gustav a few times with the Canadian Armed Forces. Too long ago to remember much about it.
