Thomas Sowell thinks the left is angry, and conservatives who think it's a good idea to murder, impoverish, imprison and execute people are not angry.

The source of the anger of liberals, “progressives,” or radicals is by no means readily apparent. The targets of their anger have included people who are non-confrontational or even genial, such as Ronald Reagan and George W. Bush.

It is hard to think of a time when Karl Rove or Dick Cheney has even raised his voice, but they are hated like the devil incarnate.

He didn't raise his voice, so he's not angry, I guess.

Or maybe it was "justified" anger, and of course, those on the left have nothing to justify their anger.

What's funny is that when you read the article, it's actually just about tax cuts. That is, the lefites are all mad about "tax cuts for the rich"-- a jumping off point for Sowell to toss around all the debunked supply-side talking points. Just like all the other conservative shills, Sowell has learned to tell his readers what they want to hear regardless of how vacuous his argument may be.

I'm not angry, I'm furious! And about one hell of a lot more than merely idiot tax cuts. Fuck Sowell. Like most if not all of these conservative, screeving dipshits, he doesn't know his ass from his elbow and makes up for it with blather.

I'm angry, too. Smug grins from the likes of Reagan and Bush have never made me less angry about their ignornat, lying, short-sighted, plutocratic and ideologically theocratic policies. When a guy grins while he's hurting you, it doesn't automatically make you like the guy -- instead, you just might come to see that he's a sadist.

Well, figuratively speaking, which one is creepy?

Someone who is visibly pissed off, emotional, and raising their voice, shouting "I'm mad as hell…"

Or

Someone who is calm and demented with a slight smile, saying "Let's use 9/11 as our excuse to bomb them and take their oil, for Jesus."

Diversity, independence, innovation and imagination are progressive concepts ultimately alien to the conservative mind.

How often have you seen conservatives or libertarians take to the streets, shouting angry slogans? How often have conservative students on campus shouted down a visiting speaker or rioted to prevent the visitor from speaking at all?

He has a point, doesn't he? Conservatives, as a rule, don't march in the streets, do they? Have conservatives ever shouted down a visiting speaker or rioted to prevent someone from speaking at all?

Not often. There was that fake "riot" they staged to disrupt vote counting in Florida back in 2000. Instead conservatives invest in rightwing talk radio stations and Fox TV and spew hate, lies, gossip and misinformation. Talk radio conservatives like Michael Savage or Fox TV's Bill O'Reilly sometimes raise their voices to cut off guests.

Old fashioned protesting lefties like Jerry Rubin back in the 60s/70s would yell. Not so much anymore with the complacent college age younger people. They protest via their quiet internet blogs.

Demented conservatives who exude a kind of spiritual syphilis, such as the late Jerry Falwell or the current vice president, haven't raised their voices while lying and spewing their bullshit with a smile.

Diversity, independence, innovation and imagination are progressive concepts ultimately alien to the conservative mind.

Well, it's a rather unfair comparison, no? I mean, ostensibly conservative universities (think Falwell's Liberty University, for example) don't invite speakers who might say something off-message. And of course, Sowell ignores any rallies against things like abortion, which happen all the time, and which are, of course, entirely populated by "conservatives"....

"As a rule," liberals don't, either. Sure, some do, but the vast majority of Democrats only know about the marches by watching the nightly news.

Liberals may shout people down, but the "protest zone" was a conservative idea. Also, conservatives have Fred "God Hates Fags" Phelps still marching in the streets.

So abortion activists and the 'save Teri Schaivo' crowd weren't conservative enough for you?

March for Life
More than 100 students gathered on the steps of Old Main yesterday to announce their decision to come out of the "conservative closet."
The organizers claim 1.5M people showed up for the rally. This number is amazing. ... I hope the Italian people can get their parliament not to give in to the gay rights people.

There's plenty more, just Google "conservative rally".

And the team that's been on the winning side for almost thirty years has what reason to demonstrate? Aside from issues like abortion, where they do demonstrate, what would be their motivation to protest? And for every protest about, say, the war, there is usually a counter protest across the street. Sure, less conservatives show up, but the one's who are there do frequently try to shout down the speakers of the main protest.

Is it possible that if the conservatives were almost always on the loosing side, they might protest more?

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

Hmm, this doesn't make much of a case against liberal anger. :(

You know, until this moment I hadn't thought of creating a dichotomy where the religious schools were "conservative" and other schools were liberal. If I were to guess I would have made the split among schools that focused on the hard sciences as opposed to those that focused on the humanities.

The protest zone is ineed a conservative idea, but isn't that comparing apples and oranges?

I don't think it's fair to smear anyone with association with Fred Phelps. Really, he doesn't represent anyone but himself.

Isn't that so far removed that modern labels simply don't apply?

Good point, liberals certainly don't have a monopoly on protesting, but wouldn't you still agree that liberals are far more prone to protest than conservatives?

I disagree with your assumptions. I believe liberalism has made huge strides in the past 30 years and would not at all agree that conservatives have been winning all that time.
