Well, I've posted again on Bill's site, in a different topic:
Uh, Sarfati, aren't you the same guy who said that Hector Avalos was squeamish when he complained about the ancient Isrealites killing off bablies and pregnant women in the OT??
He of course has to ignore the clear archaeological evidence of the depravity of the Canaanites, and ignore intelligent Christian responses to his new-found squeamishness (e.g. Outrageous Reasoning: A Closer Look at a Common Skeptical Tactic and his summaries of alleged biblical cruelty here. |
Yep, that IS what you say...problem is, all the reasoning that's given in that link, and others like it, for those actions just amounts to what would be called "situational ethics"....not the "absolute morality" that you people always claim. That's even if we were to buy the idea that the Isrealies had no "resources" to take care of the babies until they grew up...(god could have given them some more, couldn't he?)
All it amounts to is this: one barbaric group smashed up another barbaric group for their land, resources, or whatever reason, and justified it by using their god. Problem is, as agricutlure and technology developed, people didn't have to be so ruthless to survive, so we eventually adopted laws against killing of pregnant women and children.
Abortion (something I'm also against) is still done because the fetus in many places is still considered part of the mother's body, not a sentient being yet. Once the babie's born, it's hands off.
Christians are left stuck with worshipping and defending the "morality" of the same god who had women and babies killed, while protesting against abortion and calling themselves "pro-life".

Ig, I told you about Sarfati. What I failed to tell you, and should have, is that he is protected on any forum that he infests. Try and rough him up a little, even supported with hard fact, and you'll get banned faster'n grain goes though a goose. On the other hand, he'll be perfectly free to hand out any distortion, outright lie or ad hom he feels like with impunity.
Oh, how I wish we could get him in here.....

I can only take that stuff in small doses, so I've just now finished the posts in the links. Seems Sarfati has mellowed a tad since his TWeb days. He's as least as full of shit as ever, but not quite so nasty-tempered. Or perhaps I haven't seen the right posts.....
As might be expected, he postulates that 'Darwinism' is responsible for Hitler's atrocities, which is a straw man of the murkiest water.
A( there is no such thing as 'Darwinism.' Darwin is not and never has been a deity of any sort and the term itself is a logical fallicy.
B( It makes not the least bit of difference if the ToE did inspire Hitler and/or Stalin, and/or Jeffery Dalhmer for that matter. It remains a biological fact, so suck it up, Jon-Boy!
And C( I was pleased to note that he was still using a varation of the happy, old "goo to you via the zoo" tripe. That one always gave me a chuckle.
Ig, have you referenced Talk Orgins yet? Do, and he won't try to refute it; rather he'll call it a "garbage site" and scuttle off to something else.
As for the rest of it, I'm not enough of a Bible scholar to comment beyond stating that Dr. Hector Avalos made a pretty good presentation.
Some of those guys are pretty long-winded, aren't they?

Looks to me like you've made yourself persona non grata, and nothing you write will make it on there. It's a sort of banning without cause that avoids the embarrassment of appearing like an ass to the membership. They're hoping that you'll give up and go away.
Having a nasty & suspicious nature, and knowing Sarfati, I wonder if Bill & Jon didn't have a little PM chat concerning yourbadself.

Well, it seems that Sarfati has again taken to attacking Avalos on that same Culture Watch post; just click on the link to it in the original post.

I don't know; I've left him some room to try to hit me back...
(this was originally in my post above yours before I took it out)
I took the precaution of leaving ol' Bill some wiggle room: He had said that he dealt with "my complaint" several times, so that's why he said that athiest reading skills are deficient. I'm waiting for him to point that out and say that it wasn't just me. In other words, I'm trying to see what it takes to bait him so's I can post there again.

Well, here's another person for Safarti to shoot down; the author of Faith and Fratricide.
Wonder what insults he'll find to spare for her, even though she's a christian?
As for Avalos and Robert Turkel/Holding (whatever), you can judge for yourself who has the most temper tantrums by reading Turkel's piece, which Sarfati linked to, and an article by Avalos himself.
BTW: Morinville is a few minutes drive from Edmonton; I commute between them, just so's you know. |

Well, guess what? Bill's at it again...he's posted a positive review of John West's book "Darwin Day in America" on his site. I've tried to respond as usual on his site, but meh.
However, for a twist, I've also posted my reply to him (and a link to his site) at ERV's blog.
It's obvious why: I don't want my response to be ignored or handwashed away, and I want other people who hate that kind of bullshit to see this.
I'm posting the link to Abbie's blog instead of a direct link to Bill's blog simply because she has a cool "Zombie Hitler" thing going on...
(don't ask, just check out her blog entry) Afarensis of sciencblogs.com has made a story with Abbie in it where they have to deal with the Hitler canard that Bill, Sarfati, and anti-science punks dish out on a regular basis.
It's way more fun than reading Bill's blog. |

Reynold Hall relies on Talk.Obnoxious, where most of the articles are written by non-experts in the field. Many of the lead articles were authored by computer programmers!
Care to back that up? Besides, even if that was true, didn't you write a lot about things that weren't in your field in your book "Refuting Evolution"? Didn't you talk about anthropology, paleontilogy, astronomy? Do you have a degree in any of those areas?
Didn't someone once give you heck for just that behaviour?
Error 2: The "quote mining" fetish really means "quoting in context an evolutionist who nevertheless presents a difficulty for a particular area of evolution, so is invoked as a hostile witness."
How's about checking out the contexts? For some examples of someone who has.
Then there's TO's lengthy list of creationist misquoting examples.
Didn't you get nailed at least once misquoting someone, Safarti?
Someone got caught on the exact same Scott Todd misquote that you just used, Sarfati. Look through the whole thread and watch their discussion.
If there's time, and if Bill even lets this comment show up, I may look up your other quotes. Needless to say, I'm not taking them at face value. |
