Betty Perry says, "I never thought they would ever do anything like that to a person that is 70 years old. I've never bothered anybody, I've never hurt anybody." |
Epidemic
This 70 year old woman arrested for not watering this:
You laugh at the Gnome now. You will remember when you are arrested for not watering your lawn, or maybe not enough air in your car tires.

What a man believes upon grossly insufficient evidence is an index into his desires -- desires of which he himself is often unconscious. If a man is offered a fact which goes against his instincts, he will scrutinize it closely, and unless the evidence is overwhelming, he will refuse to believe it. If, on the other hand, he is offered something which affords a reason for acting in accordance to his instincts, he will accept it even on the slightest evidence. The origin of myths is explained in this way. - Bertrand Russell |

We will always have the Gnome to laugh at, thank you.
By the way, being old doesn't make a person right. As people keep telling me.

That's when the officer tried to handcuff her for refusing to give her name and resisting the ticket. She tripped on the steps, scraping up her nose and elbows, leaving blood on her door, her porch and her clothes. |
Do you think they gave her a ticket for bleeding on the policeman?
Good thing it was not a mob of bicycle riders. Then they would have needed SWAT and tear gas!

Well, she wasn't arrested for not watering her lawn, she was arrested for "refusing to give her name and resisting the ticket." And given that she said, "I've never had any experience before with the law, ever in my life," this situation appears to be a particularly inconvenient mix (for all concerned) of one policeman's zeal and one old woman's ignorance of law-enforcement procedure. |

| I think I smell a GAS (Grasping at Straws) award nomination. Jerome is just angy that his last nomination was hosed by our server…

Would you have licked the boots of the officer?
A 70 year old woman physically resisted? Are you kidding?

So you won't even consider the possibility?
|
Sure, but the statements of the police department and the lady do not give any reason to believe she physically resisted getting a ticket for not watering her lawn.

Fallacious appeal to pity.
No, I'm not kidding.
Gene Snow is 70 and he's still faster than most 20-30 year olds off the line and at the quarter mile.
He can also kick a little butt when he needs to.
Buzz Aldrin is pushing 70 and he still decked Bart Sibrel with one punch. (OK, Sibrel REALLY had it coming, but....) |

| Uh, from all indications, Jerome doesn't actually bother to read the material at he links he posts here. And you should be careful, HH. Some gnat who has been lurking is likely to take justifiable offense at your comparison with Gnome. That would gnot be gnice.
