Rare giant squid washed up in Australia

One of the largest giant squid ever found has washed up on a remote Australian beach, sparking a race against time by scientists to examine the rarely seen deep-ocean creature.

Yes! The article I read described it as a "bus-size squid." (Guess where the idea for my "squid-size bus" Moonscape article came from. My stuff's so derivative, I should be ashamed. But I'm so brazen, I'm not.)

I saw the squid story and did not post it because of your story. I liked your story better.

What a man believes upon grossly insufficient evidence is an index into his desires -- desires of which he himself is often unconscious. If a man is offered a fact which goes against his instincts, he will scrutinize it closely, and unless the evidence is overwhelming, he will refuse to believe it. If, on the other hand, he is offered something which affords a reason for acting in accordance to his instincts, he will accept it even on the slightest evidence. The origin of myths is explained in this way. - Bertrand Russell
