In light of the theists "I'll pray for you" remark, no, but then I do not personally know the atheist. Do you?

I think that may have been the point: demonstrating the rudeness of Mr. Cameron's comment.

Sometimes just pointing something out is insufficient; one must demonstrate it.

So its OK to be rude and insulting if they are rude and insulting first.

Who knows his intent, but he was rude and insulting for most of the debate.

Mm, I've been loosely following this, pardon me if I got something wrong; but here's my opinion.

I don't really mind if people want to pray for me. More often than not, they don't know I'm an atheist, so that may be why. I appreciate the sentiment - usually you pray for someone's good, not bad. Even if I don't believe in prayer, I accept and thank the good intentions.

However, if the person does know I'm an atheist and says that in answer to my atheism, then I see that as implying that being an atheist is something evil that must be cured (which, I understand, for a religious person it really is). It's no different than, say, telling a Wiccan that you'll pray for them to accept Jesus, or for a gay person to stop being gay, y'know? It's disrespectful.

But still I'm cool with it. Unlike when people try to convert me, especially because I'm handicapped, so I get that a lot - people telling me to pray for God to heal me. Then I get pissed. But that's another matter entirely.

I'm pretty much indifferent about being prayed for. I figure that praying for me makes the pray-er feel good about his/herself, and how can that be a bad thing?

Of course, it's sometimes presented in a consending and even insulting manner, and that might garner an entirely different response. It's all in the presentation.

You know, that's exactly what I think Kirk Cameron was.

They lured the Rational Response Team to that debate under the guise that they were going to produce scientific evidence for the existence of God, and all they provided when they got there was just a wagonload of proselytizing and warmed up re-vamped classic arguments from incredulity, straw men, and what not that has been shown to be bunk so many times before.

Basically, Kirk Cameron invited Rational Response Team under false pretences. Which makes Kirk a liar.

I agree, it was likely Kirk's intent to ambush. But Cameron and Comfort were the ones who were in effect ambushed, due to the terrible response they got from the audience to their phony presentation. I think they had no clue of how to talk to a relatively sophisticated crowd.

The RRS may have not done a perfect job. They may have prepared themselves for a better opposition than that which was presented, and may have been stunned by its actual stupidity. But they did well enough, IMO. I feel no need to be sorry for the RRS, as those other two clowns pretty much demolished themselves. They had made silly pre-debate promises that raised the expectations for themselves way above anything they could deliver. They probably thought this would just be some more easy preaching to the choir once again, but it wasn't.
