Sometimes scary monsters are real. Like the mysterious Demon of Dartmoor, aka the Beast of Dartmoor.

Here are two of the photos that ignited a wave of fear and speculation in the United Kingdom:

The dark Beast skulks near oblivious hikers.

Blow-up of another photo: Now,
that unworldly thing is just wrong!

For the less exciting details, here's the original article.

I thought so, too, and so did my daughter.

That's a particularly mean thing to say about your daughter.

I bookmarked this in case I ever come across a Cryptozoologist waving blurry pictures of Bigfoot or Nessi. Then again, they will probably just say the dog is a cover up.

Why continue? Because we must. Because we have the call. Because it is nobler to fight for rationality without winning than to give up in the face of continued defeats. Because whatever true progress humanity makes is through the rationality of the occasional individual and because any one individual we may win for the cause may do more for humanity than a hundred thousand who hug their superstitions to their breast.

True, but she can be mean, too.

Not me. "Bison" was all that came to mind at first, when seeing the blow-up photo. The distant photo reminds me of a black panther, though, appearing almost to be doing a low, crouching, cat-like slink.

Once, around 2003, I was driving my mother and sister around the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State. We were on a long, straight stretch of two-lane road in a deep evergreen rainforest, miles north of Aberdeen. Suddenly, several hundred yards ahead, a rather skinny and probably adolescent black bear burst out of the foliage from the right, ran across the road, and out of sight again. The word that instantly came to my mind was "gorilla!"

Just as instantly, I knew it was a bear. I have no idea from where in my head came the split-second misidentification.

The first picture is of a large, black dog, as the article readly explains. The second is Bigfoot redux, quite possibly a fraud. The reason I think this is that, with today's photographic equipment, even with the cheap stuff such as mine, there is no excuse for such a FUBAR shot. It is probably of the dog again.

Two photos that clearly show the minotaur as a bipedal.

It looks like a Newfoundland dog to me, one in the wild with massively overgrown and matted fur.

Edited to add:

Honestly, I just now opened the link in the OP.... I guessed right!

Curiously, if you zoom in on the 4th person from the left and do a bit of enhancement, this face appears:

It's a miracle!!

Sorry, just bored. But yes, the zoomed in animal does look like a buffalo.

Apparently according to The Sun (Britain's favourite newspaper), big cat sightings have been confirmed in the UK by experts.
