Two pieces of Expelled news today.
One, Ben Stein has won an award, the ironically named "Philip E. Johnson Award for Liberty and Truth." The press release further ridiculously claims that Stein's two tiny scenes in Ferris Bueller was a "lead role," showing just how divorced from reality these people really are. Just in case that silliness somehow vanishes from UD, I'll quote it here:La Mirada, Calif. — Ben Stein, known for his lead role in the film Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and his Comedy Central show Win Ben Stein’s Money, believes in liberty and truth. (Yeah, it's the lead sentence which makes the ludicrous "lead role" claim.
Two, The Search for Truth, God and Braver Scientists in 'Expelled' describes quite well the antipathy that the Expelled crowd (including its award-winning star) have for actual liberty and truth.
On a side note, many here will recognize the person described by Dan Whipple here:In my experience, scientists are forthright, diligent and feverishly eager to promote their ideas. There is no greater scientific laurel to be gained than to overturn the reigning paradigm. I get periodic emails from a wonderful man, a respected nuclear chemist, who has a groundbreaking idea about the makeup of the sun. He thinks it's a ball of iron. The world's leading solar physicist described these ideas to me as "crackpot science." Does this make my nuclear chemist shy of publicity? Does it make him quake in the shadows and hide from the cameras? Is he so terrified of the solar physics establishment that he can't eat his morning cereal? No. He sends out another blanket email with dense formulae, along with a polite note. But the sun remains un-ironed. (For those not in the know, you'll have to start reading here.) |

When you won't teach your course, Biology 101, but insist instead upon teaching some kind of Biblical Antibiology instead, you should be fired.
I don't want future physicians to begin their study with Bronze Age myth instead of a modern scientific foundation. Of course such fanatic ideologues should be hounded out of academia!

Of course, they didn't actually fire her. They just decided to not renew her contract when it expired. You can only call that a firing if you expect contracts to be automatically renewed, and I know of no place that does that. |

Over at UD they're making the ultimate ad hominem attack - go see Expelled to celebrate Darwin's death. Praise Jesus, it's all science so far!

| April 1st seems more appropriate for a release date. Oh wait, they aren't kidding...

In other Expelled news, Kevin Miller (one of the guys behind the movie) is active on the AtBC forum (HT: Pharyngula). And there is also a bizarre "Media Alert" from the makers regarding Robert Moore's critical review. |

Kevin Miller wrote (at antievolution.org) <Mab's note: Kevin regarding ID:> I'd rather disentagle the scientific questions from the religious questions so that the real question becomes, can ID produce compelling evidence and arguments to back up their theories? I think the jury is still out on that. | Wow... On what planet has he been living on the last decade? The answer is a resounding "NO!"
Religious agendas aside, I really do believe that people like Sternberg, Dembski, Marks, Berlinski, Gonzalez, Behe, etc are sincerely seeking the truth. That may be difficult for some of you to accept, but they weren't anywhere close to the fundamentalist bogeymen they're often made out to be.
| These men do act like the bogeymen they are made out to be.
Kevin Miller also said:
Ben consulted with many individuals regarding biology and Darwinism, some of whom I know and some I don't. One individual who I know had a significant influence on him is mathematician and philosopher David Berlinski. | Emphasis above mine. Who do you go to when you have an aching tooth? A proctologist? Maybe this Berlinski know some biology, what do I know? (checking wikipedia... Well what do you know? A Discovery Institute fellow!) When I want an expert opinion on something, I go to an expert. |

Well, well, well, (Now that's a “Deep” subject) it appears that Ben Stein has a lill' movie.
I have a wee film/research too but unlike Mr. Stein mine illuminates AND entertains in about five minutes and, A-N-D, it's FREE!
Mr. Stein (BTW: moi's film/research tells how the Jewish people REALLY came about) charges you for propaganda and I give the human race knowledge for free, ain't I a moron? Perhaps.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z7iQRFP_e90
And here is moi's, officially ignored, film/research into the origin of Christendom.
Since the film is the awful facts it must be disregarded by those that tout the beautiful untruths.
The Religious Authorities, and those that GAIN from there being religions [e.g., People in the “Business” of Atheism], always say NOT to view that which they DO want you to see and avert their eyes, and remain quite silent, about that which they hope you will not chance upon.
Part I

Part II

If there were a place, and there is, where intelligence that rises little higher than our human brain stems' capacity WERE allowed Mr. Stein WOULD be found there, hence. . .check your local theater listings for Mr. Stein and murmuring mermaids and yammering yaks - talkin' terrorists - pontificating puppies - babbling babes – enunciating elephants – answering ants – zinging zombies - replying Rambos a al lambos – and many more such “Levels,” though a basically base intellectual strata they t'were, ‘tis and t'will be.
However, Ben Stein is only doing exactly what moi tells people TO DO and that is, suck-up to the prevailing mythology in the CULTure you happen to be surrounded by. Hence, Ben Stein is flying first class and considering buying a private plane and moi ‘tis takin' the bus and considering purchasing some meat, for WifeyWu, if'in moi can budget it in.
Stay on groovin' (Ain't ya glad moi didn't alliterate from A to Z?) safari, Tor
