Hilarious, ain't it?! JFK probably would have been able to handle himself in such a situation, and possibly Clinton, but I can't think of any others in recent memory.
Oops, I just about crapped my pants thinking about Dubya and Quayle as Prez and Veep, and both of them facing the music together. I would PAY to see that! |

You fiend! Never have I encountered such corrupt and foul-minded perversity! Have you ever considered a career in the Church? - The Bishop of Bath and Wells, Blackadder II

| I agree that JFK could have pulled it off. I think Nixon would have done a decent job, though with sweaty dark jowls and looking like a liar even when telling the truth. He was smart, and not a lazy man.
Carter, too, was another smart workaholic. Neither Bush, however; even George the Father is not particularly bright. And Gerald Ford would have simply appeared a buffoon.
FDR would have kicked ass, as would Truman, each in a different manner. Eisenhower, maybe, but I suspect he'd be shy on details. He was a fine group organizer, but not a man for detail.
Generally, our pols are not selected for their swift thinking, nor for their broad knowledge.

I will not use my opponents youth and inexperience against him.

What a man believes upon grossly insufficient evidence is an index into his desires -- desires of which he himself is often unconscious. If a man is offered a fact which goes against his instincts, he will scrutinize it closely, and unless the evidence is overwhelming, he will refuse to believe it. If, on the other hand, he is offered something which affords a reason for acting in accordance to his instincts, he will accept it even on the slightest evidence. The origin of myths is explained in this way. - Bertrand Russell |
