An 8 x 8 foot painting found in the parking lot of the Institute for Humanist Studies inspired concern among employees. All is resolved now, but here's an article about incident: http://www.humaniststudies.org/enews/?id=314&article=0

If you scroll down to the blue box and the title Artist Critiques "Angel of Death" you can read my contribution to this article.

Actually, that incident was pretty damned funny! (Also, I bet you could do a better angel! That one blew chunks.)

Nice critique Marf.

Also good is that there was nothing sinister about its showing up at the Institute for Humanist Studies.

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

I liked your critique of the painting. Made me look again and find things in the painting I had not taken in.

Cheers!

Marf, that critique was pretty damn funny. I enjoyed how you disguised your criticisms as obtusely worded compliments. I particularly liked: "uninhibited by conventional notions of craft or skill" and "this work transcends quality." Good stuff.

My goodness! The first thing I thought upon seeing the Angel was the thread we currently have going on psychotropic plants and fungi. Pretty surreal.

Good job, Marf!

Oops, sorry, my eye missed the mention of your art critique the first time. Nice! It was certainly better done that my shorter one ("That one blew chunks").

If there is ever a credible threat, consider having a "bring a gun to work day," dependent upon local laws and ordinances.

Or simply have someone watchful sit in a car parked across the street from the Humanist offices, with a camera and a cell phone.
