You may notice some changes around here.

One of our shorter-term goals here is to update and standardize our Website's presentation to the world. We're going to try to make this as painless as possible, and for most users, the changes should be almost unnoticable.

However, to accomplish our goals, the first things that had to go were the "themes" available to our users. If you were used to seeing other colors or font sizes, we're sorry but the first step towards a standard look-and-feel was the elimination of all the non-standard optional features. Again, we apologize.

We will endeavor to avoid doing anything that makes the site unreadable or otherwise agonizing to use. If there's something we do that causes you major problems, be sure to post here about it, or email me a davew@skepticfriends.org

By the time we're done, we should also have some nifty new features, as well.

Okay, changes are starting to be made... Some things may look a bit messy for a bit.

I'm so excited, yet scared of those "messy" things.

DO NOT WANT "messy things."

It's okay. Things will work. The fonts sizes may not be quite right, depending on what you're looking at.

My initial reaction is that with the changes, for me who's using IE6.0, the relative font-sizes between different "objects" have changed.
The font in "Quick Reply" is much larger now, compared to most other text, especially the font size of the text in the posts, but the User's title, place of origin, and post count is also larger compared to the mission statement and the posts' body font. The "normal" text size settings under the View menu in Internet Explorer gives a much larger over all font size compared to what used to be.

Edited to add:
On the other hand, I can still change the font size from the View-menu. I can't do that on vBulletin forums, nor very many websites all over the web... That's on the plus-side.

I was going about things the wrong way. I'm changing them back, for a little while.

That's one of the things we're trying to ensure. At least for everything below the page header.

One thing that will be tricky is making it work for Mac users whether they use Internet Explorer, Safari, Firefox or even Opera.

If we were going to be extra special snazzy we could create an XML file and do everything with XSL stylesheets.

Kil hasn't had any problems with the test page I've had up for weeks, and I've got all those browsers installed now (well, I'm on Windows...). And Ricky pointed us to a cool utility that'll be a tremendous help.

I'm working on it. Don't you people understand how tough it is to work on the software, keep my post-count high, and neglect my family all at the same time? I'm doing some serious multitasking here!

We're all impressed, Dave, and really appreciate the work you do.

It makes my work at Skepticality seem...insignificant.

In reality, it was a pretty lazy day. I was just play-whining back at 'Mooner.

Although I did get a lot less done than I'd planned on.

Remember, kids: lower your expectations until they're already met. It's the only way to avoid disappointment.

It would be interesting to see what the size difference is in KB once the changes are all done. I had reduced file sizes considerably before several forum members demanded I roll back the CSS.
