A new study demonstrates that Neanderthalls spread 2,000 kilometers further east than previously known. They now are known to have ranged at least as far east as Uzbekistan and Siberia:
What this study does is it pushes the geographical range of Neandertals, by 2,000 kilometers to the east. We already had an inkling Neandertals may have made it out to what is now Uzbekistan… hell they've been found in Iran. But to see that one of the Okladnikov fossils has Neandertal mtDNA that matches to European Neandertal mtDNA, calls for a big whoa. Neandertals in Siberia, whoa. |

I've never seen any reason for Neandertal to be limited to any sort of an area beyond natural boundries. I conjecture that they pretty much proliferated 'most anywhere there was game & forage enough to sustain them. Siberia (the Russian one, not our Siberia) has been shown to have large herds of mammoth back in the day, as well as smaller game.
Good article!
