Still recovering from yesterday's fun - a colonoscopy, 3 days of nothing but fluids and laxatives (as if I needed those, constant diarrhoea is why I was getting checked in the first place), and now my ringpiece glows in the dark. The only part that didn't hurt was the procedure itself, I was numbed and laid on my side while I watched the screen and got a tapeworm's eye view of my entire lower bowel. Kinda cool really. The Doc says everything looked okay, no cancer or other big problems.

After that you get to sit around feeling nauseous and bloated, surrounded by others who have just completed the same thing. And since you all had your colons inflated with CO2 you're all farting merrily and being actively encouraged by the nurses, a bunch of cheerleaders for the flatulence squad. It felt like a remake of Blazing Saddles.

Glad to here everything came out all right. And as with all good science, by process of elimination, the doctor got closer to the bottom of things…

Uncertainty may make you uncomfortable. Certainty makes you ridiculous.

Glad to hear that everything, heh, came out alright. Hope you get the original problem straightened out soon.

Maybe it's all those good boudons noir y'all eat; or maybe you're not eating enough of 'em.

I hate that you, Rat, come here looking for commiseration, and instead you're just made the butt of jokes.

All's well that ends well. Next time, don't just sit on the problem for so long.

Not yet, still running like a tap. 3 days of no work, looks like a 4th today. Another day on the internet cruising for porn aircraft modeling info.

I had a similar problem some 10 years ago or so. Constant diarrhoea. They couldn't find anything wrong, so they ordered a colonoscopy. Found nothing there, either. So they put it all down to "stress". Shortly thereafter the diarrhoea was gone and I haven't had the problem since.

I guess someone prayed for me behind my back and cured me. I hate it whan that happens.

I'll pray for you, Rat.

Hmmm. This might be a touchy topic for some who haven't had the experience, but have you been checked for endoparasites? Perhaps a good worming'll fix it in the end.

Yeah, I'm a nasty bastard and should be ashamed , but it's a thought.

Actualy, I'm serious. There is a fair amount of flora & fauna out there that can cause your symptoms, and a lot worse. having been there & done that, and had my parking validated at the store, I pass along the thought.

The probable explanation is an incident about 35 years ago. I was doing some hiking with some buddies, it was a hot dusty day and the drinks ran out quickly. Rather than wait until we got to a reliable source of water I did something stupid - I looked at this lovely clear pond and thought "10,000 minnows can't be wrong, that's potable". Those little bastards lied to me. The next day I was wracked with stomach cramps and the raging shits, and the diagnosis was gastro-enteritis. The chronic stuff began around then and has gotten steadily worse over the years. Doc seems to agree, now we have to see what, if anything, can be done.

One false theory my dad had was that running whitewater was always safe. Not true. But I was lucky, and only got water-borne diseases when on overseas trips. The last of those was a good 30 years ago, and I think I got amoebic dysentery. Was sick for a couple of months.

My dad also believes that about fish ridding water of danger. He mentioned how in his childhood in Texas, they kept goldfish in roof-downspout drinking water cistern barrels for that purpose. (A dipper was hung there for drinking.) Us kids thought that was yucky, because of the goldfish poop.

Have you been checked for the kind of stuff Fil mentioned, Rat? I seem to recall that some of those parasites hide pretty well.

Which simply means "inflamation of the stomach and/or intestines." As a famous doctor once said, having a diagnosis of "gastro-enteritis" is like diagnosing a "headache" for any pain above the neck. It's completely non-specific, and doesn't actually say anything about why the inflamation exists. Just like both a sinus infection and an ice-pick to the ear can cause a "headache," both cholera and a gunshot wound can cause "gastro-enteritis," and if you treat for the wrong thing it can be deadly. Nobody should ever be satisfied with a diagnosis of "gastro-enteritis."
